Chup, that might not have been the best idea. Dayton's threads were actually drawing some real discussion, as opposed to Baba's usual rubbish.

Each thread was moving along just fine on its own, not to pile on but that was a questionable call.

Look, when a precedent is set then I follow it. That's what I am used to doing. Its in my training. Perhaps it not that wise having a lawyer on the stuff as my reasoning tells me:-

1) If a precedent is set then it should followed whoever it be applied to.

2) Dayton has a history of multiple spam threads on Trekbbs so we know he is capable of it here.

3) He could have expressed his thoughts in one thread like everyone else.

4) You cannot go against Baba and Starguard and then leave others alone - that is not in the interests of equality.

5) It is my entitlement to do this under the "descretion of the staff".

6) If this were Cass of Mewa, or someone else who is traditionally the object of hate there would be no drama.


Look, I get concerned that being a mod here is all about making popular decisions based on what the board members think just avoid drama. Well the real world doesn't work like that so why should WF? Someone should have the guts to make unpopular decisions if it maintains the rules, the precedents set and prevents the place from descending into a spam infested mess. This is hardly TBBS. I have warned how many times, once, twice? I have banned nobody. I have shut hardly any threads. Yet if you believe tards like Sokar I am some sort of Hitler who rules with an iron fist.

A little perspective is needed me thinks.

Some of what you say is true. But boxing up Dayton's threads did not seem justified, given that they were getting actual discussion going.

And it was Dayton, for the love of jeebus. How often does anyone actually engage with him, rather than just flaming him?

Your point being what, that she should get charity because it was one of teh few occasions people were talking to him?

No...you need a little perspective.

It doesn't matter who started a thread or why if it has evolved into actual discussion. This is a BBS and what we do is keep the board in a state where people can discuss things...that is it.

What you did was that several lively discussions and shove them all together because of who the author was and some personal notion of the appearence of equality.

There is no "entitlement" and it is the "common sense of the staff"...no common sense was applied here....common sense dictates you don't destroy four lively discussions and punish everyone. If the topics are being discussed they are not spam anymore and four threads is not that many and doesn't even approach disrupting the forum.

And I believe we still do not have a spam rule and we certainly don't have a tidy forum rule...so I still don't see the logic.

Chup is off for a bit dealing with personal stuff, btw. So maybe things will calm some.
