Okay, situation. when I delete my search history (via Chrome or the computer settings in general) all my search engines (Yahoo + Google) clear just fine. I start typing something in "ant eater" and other words starting with "a" don't pop up, if you get my drift. HOWEVER.....BING isn't cooperating. I type in "bunny rabbit" and adult movie starts named Bunny I may have typed in populate the pull-down. Yes, I went through the BING procedures about ten times...clear history, are you sure you want to clear history, do you want to disable future search history, etc. etc. Nothing works. Again, only BING populates the pull down as soon as you start typing in your search. All other search engines are completely cleared. Any thoughts?
Yes, that will clear FUTURE problems. But I can't delete the current pull-down searches. HOWEVER I just realized the BING "maps" is the only one that won't clear! WEB, VIDEO, IMAGES, everything clears except MAPS. What I can't fathom is I never searched for Nina Hartley under maps. Maybe I did under images, but no big deal...that pull down is cleared. Again, only BING maps won't clear, but BING maps pull-down has things I never searched for with the MAPS function. Option B, I disable the MAPS portion of BING but not the rest of the functions - is this possible?
I don't think there is a solution. This is just something Microsoft does; ignore user input when it comes to removing information or deactivating "features." Windows Messenger does the same crap, and has with every iteration of it I've ever seen. Set it to not launch at login -- a million different ways, any and every technique under the sun -- that fucker's still gonna launch at login. TL;DR: You've used it. Now you're stuck with it. Forever.
Have you cleared your cookies in your browser? That should wipe all of it out, unless you've got a Microsoft/Bing account, then you'll probably wind up with the same issue again.
Yes, I cleared cookies, history, etc. several times. Like I said, all the search engines clear except for BING. And the weird part is things I would never search under the MAPS area are populated in the pull-down.
In past, in similar situations, I've had luck using the 'delete' key to remove prefills or a recorded memory of search history. So I'd hit delete while "bunnie" is in the search line or highlighted, e.g. You gotta do every item manually, however, you can't hold shift and click to select a bunch at a time; just keep hitting delete.
Okay, probably not the solution in your case. But I don't mean right-click-delete. I mean while 'bunnie' is shaded blue or whatever in the search line, press a button on keyboard that says "Del" or "Delete".
Okay, I select something in the MAPS search menu and choose "select". Then it's highlighted, and I delete it. Then when I come back to BING it's right back in the pull-down menu. Thus I can temporarily delete whatever is in the search, but that's the same as back-spacing to clear what I typed. It won't get out of the pull-down. I searched the web, and there is not one incident of just one portion of BING not clearing the history. Computers hate me. I'm always that guy our IT department says "I never saw this before" with weird problems.
Have you cleared all your caches including your Temp files? Bing claims Maps doesn't have it's own history and gets all it's info from your browser's general cache.
I have completely cleared the browser six ways from Sunday. The searches do not appear anywhere else but BING maps.
UPDATE! I give up. Theoretically it's impossible for only the MAPS portion of Bing to have different search pull-down clearing properties than the WEB, VIDEO, IMAGES portions so I am obviously in the throes of the world's longest hallucination on record.
Make sure the "Preserve Favorite" website data box isn't checked. Did you clear it from the website interface? http://www.bing.com/profile/history
I clicked your link. I see no "preserve favorite" and I think I investigated everything on it. How exactly would I get to this choice?
Apparently, its better than Google at finding pr0n. Personally, motherless.com has all that I need, so far as pr0n goes.
I think the preserve favorites thing might be a browser setting in Chrome not part of that link. Sorry for the confusion.
Sorry to hear about your booty clap. But medical science has a cure for that these days. Get treated quick before it's too late.
Wait. There are people who have a hard time finding porn on the Internet?! But yeah. Don't use Bing. That's the obvious solution to me.
And the downside to the only pull-down that won't clear being Bing Maps is I use it constantly for planning deer hunting. Google Maps (satellite view) take their pics in the summer, when you can't tell the pines from the hardwoods. Bing takes winter pictures, so the hardwoods pop right out as a grey band. Also with leaves off in the winter you can tell different species of trees and spot terrain features better.
