we need to put this in perspective - Democrats really, really, really care! Thus their intentions are pure and just, and we shouldn't question their understanding which exceeds that of mere mortal conservatives.
Ugh. I mean Trump’s a piece of shit, and I’m pretty sure the Republicans only voted against it because the Dems voted for it, but FFS, the Dems should have voted for the Amash amendment.
I'd be interested in an expansion of this part... "Some have defended affirmative votes by pointing out that the Patriot Act reauthorization was tucked into a stopgap spending measure designed to avoid imminent "government shutdown."" also, that it seems "the squad" seem to care more about civil liberties than many of the other supposed libertardians in congress... "House Democrats who joined Amash in voting no included freshman members (and Trump scapegoats) Alexander Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), and Rashida Tlaib (Mich.)" Finally, why no mention of how many Republicans voted in favour?
Because at the end of the day, many of them, regardless of political affiliation, work for the same plutocrats that have entrenched us in this shithole we're in right now. Shame on all of them.
I'd be interested to learn who did that myself. Shouldn't really effect how one votes for it, though, and it apparently didn't for most Republicans. There's literally no mention of libertarians voting for or against, but whatever, you show that partisanship, and keep telling yourself this somehow makes up for the vast majority of Democrats voting for this when most Republicans voted against it. It's right there at the end of the portion I quoted for the OP.
I mentioned it because of the second paragraph in the article "Democrats are "just as responsible for warrantless surveillance as Trump and the GOP," as libertarian-leaning Rep. Justin Amash (I–Mich.) tweeted yesterday." hardly making excuses for anybody, although given how many GOP also claim that same leaning, (and let's face it, many of them had to have voted in favour for this thing to get passed-it practically says as much) it's a reasonable conclusion.
