(Coulda sworn there was a thread on this, but I can't find it so...)

    (Spoilers tagged)

    Anyone watch this?

I'm a huge fan of the original Showtime series and was very curious about this new one.

Have to say, it was fantastic---right up until it shit the bed in the last 20 minutes where

Mostly, it was spot-on. Despite the new location, situation, and cast, this had an early season feel to it.

Loved that Dexter's "Dark Passenger" is

I didn't initially think the father-son drama was going to work, but it won me over.

    Clancy Brown!

    Hey, what happened to

The revelation of the antagonists, uh, handiwork is one of the more chilling bits in the whole franchise, on par with the Ice Truck Killer stuff.

A very worthwhile watch, even if the ending left me cold and creates a serious impediment to the franchise continuing.

In the original run Dexter was anxious over killing an innocent not because he felt bad for doing so, or didn't want to, but because he was convinced that living by the code was the only way to stay free. Once he realised that Harry was largely full of shit a lot of that would have melted away.

    Fair point.

But the original never knowingly crossed that line, and for good reason: the audience can't root for Dexter if he's killing innocent people. The whole concept falls apart once he starts killing people who don't (on some level) deserve it.

And so it does in Dexter: New Blood. As soon as that one murder occurs, we know how it must end because the concept is irrevocably broken.

I suppose that's...fine...if you want to end the series, and I suppose it's better than the original series' "lumberjack" ending, but I'm still feeling a bit dissatisfied.

    I suppose a better ending might've been:
