I don't know if @Bailey is the only one here whose country has mandatory voting, but I wonder how that would change elections if that 40 percent that sits on their ass every year had to actually pick someone. Would they be more motivated to consider a third party knowing every vote counts?

From what I remember another Aussie telling me, they do often an option that basically says "All these options suck and I'm not picking any of them" on the ballot. It's a good compromise from having to do a so called protest vote.
