Here's an absolutely indisputable statistic: What one group, across the entire world and throughout history, has overwhelmingly committed the most rapes, both in raw numbers and proportionately? Men. And yet you don't see anybody calling for all men to have our activities curtailed, or to be preemptively restricted in the name of safety. Why? Because in our society, we have a principle that we judge people as individuals, based on what they personally do or don't do, and not as members of groups. Some people just are very selective about when they choose to remember this principle ... as this thread demonstrates.

I don't know how many ways there are to say this. In a free country, we judge people by what they themselves do, not by what group they are part of (otherwise we'd simply restrict the civil liberties of all men, since statistically we commit a vastly disproportionate amount of not just rapes, but violent crimes in general). That isn't ignoring or handwaving; it's making a basic statement about a fundamental value of free societies.
