I need to conduct further study and gather empirical data, but to date my observation of Tesla drivers leads me to conclude that there are only two types of folks who drive one: 1. Full-on batshit fucking crazy. 2. Terrified of their own shadow. There does not appear to be any middle ground with regard to Tesla drivers. Also, my criticism of Tesla drivers is unrelated to the hot mess that is Elon Musk and Twitter.
I take a lot of Ubers, and have had about 3-5 Tesla drivers. They seemed normal to me. I have a friend who is a Tesla owner who seems neither crazy nor scared. Nor do I think he is a Musk fanboy, but I haven't really discussed the topic with him. He just seems to like the car.
I like cars that do not use Maximum Overdrive and The Terminator as the base for programming their AI.
#2 may be all the people who bought prior to Elon Musk going full lunatic that used to get fucked with by gigachad truck owners on the road but now get left alone because said gigachads think everyone who drives Tesla approves of the guy I work for an auto referral organization and I can't remember the last time anyone asked when Tesla may sign up. If anything, I get people looking to get out of that car at the end of their leases specifically because of his behavior.
Uber has a thing where drivers can rent Teslas, so they might not be owners. At least they did, I don't know about now. I didn't look into it because if I drive Uber with a rental I can't deduct mileage, and if I can't deduct mileage, I get majorly fucked come tax time.
"Our CEO is an erratic, unstable narcissist" is definitely not a great sales pitch for a product that you're going to entrust with your life...
Yes, but, deducting actual expenses is based on my actual expenses. The standard mileage rate is based on average expenses. I own a Kia, and can do 90% of maintenance and repairs myself, so my actual expenses are significantly lower than average expenses. That, and, using standard mileage means spending a lot less time doing my taxes.
I was interested in Tesla's self driving technology before his twitter idiocy proved he has no actual concept of technology and the operation of it. However, way back in the mid 90's a very intelligent Mac Guru I knew gave me the best advice ever. He said never be the first to upgrade, update, or get a new technology. If you are going to Beta never rely on that machine or machines. All through my tech life it always rang true to never be the first in line for any of that shit. Despite being interested in Tesla I would have avoided it until at least a year after it had been operating for a while, and I would never let a forced update happen to the program until after 6 months in the field. It seems with cars you probably want to wait at least 3-5 years before relying on the important new driving technologies. At this point Elon's management and poor judgment regarding implementation is a real problem. I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he might have a clue until I saw what he did with Twitter. I would never Trust Tesla self driving capabilities after seeing how elon works at Twitter, and knowing he lies and covers up his companies development and half asses everything for profit and to be first. Knowing how much Tesla's operate on their programming and engineering I am not even willing to step into the things anymore. I have bought and taken drugs from some shady fucking dealers before, but I am not risking my ass in a Tesla. Fuck those bitches, I do not even trust driving next to them on the road anymore. The Tesla drivers may be great drivers, but when you car operates more on computer controlled servos than physical mechanics that is a fucking death trap. At least in my car the breaks and steering operate on physical systems that still work with the loss of power.
Even before Eegah's latest douchery, I had zero interest in owning one of his ugly cars. The logo looks stupid too, though it's an uncanny commentary on the owner.
Lanzman drives a Honda Fit. Have a good friend who got one of the first Model 3s on the east coast, tho, and I’ve driven it. Nice car.
This isn’t the best example but before they came up with the family crest logo for the cars, Tucker had a stylized “T” for their logo that resembles what Tesla has.
and yet another reason Elmo is a dick... ********************* Elon Musk Lays Off Twitter Employee Who Slept on the Floor to Meet His Crazy Deadlines Twitter CEO Elon Musk has a message for employees: Loyalty means nothing. Over the weekend, Musk laid off more than 50 employees at the social media company, including one of his most vocal supporters, product head Esther Crawford. Crawford famously made headlines back in November when she quote-tweeted a photo of herself sleeping at the office days after Musk took over Twitter in order to meet his crazy deadlines. Despite criticism from folks who said Musk was making Twitter employees work round the clock to prove themselves, Crawford took it in stride, stating at the time that “doing hard things requires sacrifice.” The Platformer newsletter first reported Crawford’s dismissal. After Musk took over the company in late October, Crawford began to look for bigger opportunities at Twitter, The Verge reported. She introduced herself to the new CEO and pitched him new ideas on how to improve the company. Pretty soon, Musk tasked her with relaunching Twitter’s Blue subscription product, which had a disastrous debut. Crawford confirmed her departure from Twitter in a post on Saturday night. “The worst take you could have from watching me go all-in on Twitter 2.0 is that my optimism or hard work was a mistake,” she said. “Those who jeer & mock are necessarily on the sidelines and not in the arena. I’m deeply proud of the team for building through so much noise & chaos.” Crawford wasn’t the only high-level employee laid off. Martijn de Kuijper, the founder of Twitter’s axed newsletter platform, Revue, said shortly after midnight on Sunday that he figured he was laid off when he got locked out of his email. “Waking up to find I’ve been locked out of my email. Looks like I’m let go. Now my Revue journey is really over,” De Kuijper tweeted, adding the saluting face emoji popular among Twitter employees leaving the company. The Wall Street Journal reported that some employees seemed to have been laid off via email on Saturday, which informed them that their role had been eliminated after a wider review. “Today is your last working day at the company,” the email stated, according to the Journal. Since he took over Twitter, Musk has carried out at least four rounds of layoffs, per The Verge, leaving the company with less than 2,000 employees. Twitter had more than 7,500 workers when the billionaire took over. Musk may not be showing support for his most vocal supporters, but that apparently hasn’t stopped him from defending Dilbert creator Scott Adams from backlash against a recent racist rant, in which the cartoonist advised white people to “get the hell away from black people.” ************************* "I must work harder. Napoleon is always right"
I drive a leaf. If I were buying new, once I would have looked at the model 3. Now anything else. Elon screwed the pooch for Tesla stocks.
Would have seriously considered a Tesla for our next car. Assuming we can wring a few more years out of our 2012 Nissan Pulsar then I never want to buy an ICE again. Definitely doing more research on other brands now though.
I think there will be a glut of good used electrics come to market as soon as solid state batteries make it into production cars.
When I make my next purchase, I *might* go with one final ICE. More likely a hybrid. But if a good electric presents itself...
As far as I know Musk hasn't doesn't done anything to compensate anyone who bought one of his cars just before he slashed prices last year and I'm not holding my breath that he's going to refund the $15k (!) cost for the buggy beta software package, not to mention the $199 monthly fee. But hey, he's the new right-wing hero...so...
I won't touch a Tesla until they pay me to buy one... And once I have the cold hard cash in hand, I'll drive it to the nearest scrap yard and make another, what, $50 off it.
