Not sure you have an actual legitimate criticism there. What is wrong with the 'child of the tardis'?, we don't know who the silence are but they aren't finished with them, why do we need a history of the tesselector and how difficult is to accept that the robot could simulate regeneration?
That the episode, and season, was a junbled mess that I (and if you check some of the Who forums out there) others had totally lost interest in and felt totally overwhelmed by the end, I'd say makes for a legitmate criticism. Just because you think it was the best thing since sliced bread, it doesn't mean every viewer does.....and I hugely doubt that casual viewers and children (who let's face it, have had a huge hand in keeping the revival going) have much time to spend trying to think back over 26 episodes to try and fathom out a convoluted jumble.
A. Didn't think it was the best EVAR B. I imagine kids enjoy doing exactly that C. It really wasn't that overwhelmingly confusing...
Yes... the same "new showrunner" that specifically requested that the character not be killed off so he could use her in future plot lines.
Nope don't think so. I enjoyed least season and the Xmas special. It's just this season I have mostly been dissapointed with. I still enjoyed The Doctor's Wife, The God Complex and, to some degree, the Girl Who Waited. But I thought the arc was badly written and executed, which immediately takes away five episodes this year. The Gangers episodes could've been squeezed into one, so that's two further shows wasted IMO. Last week's effort was silly. Cybermen killed by love? Do me a favour. Do people remember that sort of crap happening in Classic Who? Night Terrors was a complete turd, as was the pirate episode (which was also a rehash). If I had enjoyed the arc then chances are I would've been describing it as a good season. But with the arc being rubbish and a few other stinkers there just wasn't enough for me to rate highly this year. Compare it to last year. The two final episodes, Vincent and The Doctor, The Beast Below, the fallen angels two parter, the entertaining (if cheesey) Silurian episodes - all in all it averaged out as a much better season. I not only enjoyed it more, but I watched the last two shows interested to see what happened. If I were a Dayton I would not be recognising other works by the same man/team as good.
She just popped out David Tennant's baby in March, so she was probably preoccupied while they were filming this last season.
I'm just saying, if you want a foil for the Doctor, there's a ripe bit of dangling plot that was never resolved. She may be a clone, but she's a clone of a Time Lord, running amuck with no parental guidance...
Agree on 'Closing Time' - appalling pay off although generally an enjoyable knockabout - which says a lot for how watchable Smith is and how good the dialogue can be. Largely agree on the pirates which was just a bit boring. But disagree on Night Terrors - very much enjoyed that episode.
So this season leaves us with The Doctor married and operating under the cover of the major antagonists thinking he's dead. Cool.
