    From all accounts he was a really cool guy, and had a habit of recording random bits for answering machines/classroom projects/etc for fans who wrote to him.

    I actually knew who this guy was before I clicked on this thread. I saw a short documentary or feature on him a few years ago. Damn if I could remember where I saw it, though...

    He seemed to have a pretty decent sense of humour. :(

    Was it the one that featured him working about a day a week, being chauffeured in a limo from one job to the next and knocking them out in a single take? He seemed like a good guy and what a life!

    I recently saw him on a comedy show (Carlos Mancia or some other similiar show). Yep...he was the MAN - much like announcer Don Pardo.

    yep. Also the guy who narrates Frontline has broken into commercials so we will be hearing more of him as well.

    A good voice is hard to come by.
