Most of these European invaders weren't even real refugees. They were economic migrants. Some were even criminals! Their home countries didn't want them around. And of course they never assimilated. They didn't even bother to learn the language.

Which is kind of poignant, as "Doktor Suess (Süß)" is a Jewish character in Nazi propaganda, the corrupt Jewish doctor betraying his country. Now there's a story with possibly a little bit of actual racism in it.

So was Walt Disney really a raging anti semite, or is that just an urban legend so to speak?

I thought everyone was one in the 30s

I remember my aunt making a stink about it when my uncle planned a trip to Disneyland...which in retrospect was kinda dumb when the Mouse Factory videos made up 80 of what the kids were allowed to watch. I guess getting the kids to shut up for 90 minutes trumped whatever anti-Semitic views Walt Disney held.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He adopted the name while at college in the 1920's when he got banned from all extracurricular activities for getting caught drinking in a dorm room with friends (this was during prohibition when this was actually a crime). He had been active in the University newspaper and wanted to keep writing despite the ban so he created the pen name of Dr. Seuss.

So his use predated anything to do with the Nazis.

For crying out loud, please learn to read. It's not the same name. And just for good measure, NS propaganda started no later than 1921, too. But again, it's not the same name anyway.

My maternal grandmother's family settled in Pennsylvannia from Germany in the 1750's. They'd had the name Schmidt for as long as anyone could remember. In 1917, they changed it to Smith.
