Thinking about getting membership today ...Is it worth it? :blank:Anyone been there? What should I expect Definetly need a costume What should I be? So many questions
Been a couple of times but it was years ago. It's a pretty big event- lots to see and do, and probably a good third of the people there are dressed up to some extent. My only real piece of advice would be to pre-register. You don't want to stand in that line as a walk-in, believe me. Been there, done that, no fun. One other thing: the convention (in the past) has grown to encompass three hotels in downtown ATL. My advice to anyone WRT to downtown ATL is to be cautious in your comings, goings, and safeguarding your stuff. It ain't the best neighborhood.
Im gonna stay at my brothers (30 min ride) and probably a hotel. I seen a couple local where already booked and I dont wanna travel to far away from the con alone Id rather be in house. My bother just got his ticket, but he doesnt really hang with me like that, so I think Im riding solo.
Yeah, hotels anywhere nearby are going to be booked solid, and the convention hotels will not only be booked but astronomical in price. I was lucky in that the years I went, I lived in Marietta/Powder Springs so I'd just commute in and pay for parking. Your best bet might be to ride in/out with your brother even if you guys don't hang together at the convention. The only way that hangs up is if you want to keep different hours there. IIRC it's pretty much a 20 hour a day affair in terms of 'stuff going on' at all hours of the day and night.
Dragon Con is one of the biggest comic cons in all the world. I am envious of you being so close Shakes! The only bigger one might be the San Diego one, but that has been turned into a commercialized vehicle for Hollywood to show us the crap they'll be spewing to us in the next year. I consider Dragon Con to be the biggest non-hollywood run con in the world.
I went a few years ago and OMG it was great. As you've already found out the room s are booked solid. You're only option is to take a look at the various message boards out there and see if anyone is subletting. If you are going to not stay in down town then I highly suggest you stay near a MARTA line and take that in. We may do that this year. I still want to go one year when we can stay on property. Oh and the after hours parties...you may or not have your mind blown. Some of them get extremely wild (wink wink, nudge, nudge)
After party!!!! yes! yes! My brother lives near Kennasaw like a mile from interstate, so carpooling is probably best option. Knowing my track recored Ill probably stay all night and sleep in the bed of his truck
You would completely rock a Supergirl costume. Oh wait, you said you're not blond any more? Wonder Woman.
Oh I don't think that sleeping will be an option They still do em. The big one in Florida is Vulkon. However they still bring in guests and stuff from other Sci-Fi to bolster it. Still, its mainly Trek. Well since she hasn't posted any recent pics, who knows?
Ok... Im sold! So, the current place I work is teaching dance to Pageant girls. Which give me access to a toatl awesome guy who designs dresse/costumes !!!! And than I read about this: Comic Book Babes Costume Contest Director: Cat Harrison Join us in the Centennial Ballroom of the Hyatt, at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, for a new event which promises to thrill fans of both comic books & beauty queens alike! My buddy and his wife have been doing it for years, so I guess they got dibs, b/c they always stay on property. As to the afterparties, yeah, they call it their freebie weekend. Some cons they are together most of the time, others not. Only rule is don't catch anything.
No bueno My costumer says I have to tone up before he will fit me for a costume, the generally idea is Posion Ivy thoguh
And now for a musical interlude... [yt=Geek Approved]jFhgupR565Q&feature=g-all-u&context=G2730b50FAAAAAAAABAA[/yt]
Oh, its not a bad thing. lol. In the pageant/dance world its expected. I dont sweat it, plus he makes killer costumes for the Ms Georgia pageant, so its well worth it! Just a couple more hours at the gym. Ironforge Unit!
Thinking about getting a costume design similar to this for the days at comic con and based upon flexbility, and ability to contort from years of dance Im thinking maybe a silent hill nurse for the costume babe contest.... What do ya thing? Or I could just wear the Poion Ivy costume for both....
I think the Silent Hill nurse is too plain. They probably won't want that one to win. Poison Ivy would be my preference! You are the coolest girl!!
