After reading the thread on Al Gore's power consumption I was surprised at the difference in average power consumption in the US versus that in The Netherlands - if the US numbers are correct 10,656 KWh and 3,657 kWh respectively. So I wondered, how much do you use in your home (total and per family member). I'd prefer this in a flame-free environment, so I chose the green room. Personally, I use about 2100 KWh per year, and 700m3 gas, both 'green', and I live alone. How about you?
Can't give you exact numbers but probably considerably more than most people here in the summer and much, much less in the winter (we rarely turn on the heat during winter - hardly ever gets cold enough). We're looking into solar power since we get sunshine 95% of the year. A fair percentage of our power already is supposedly from "green" sources. I would say those figures you are quoting stem from the fact that the US has a far more varied climate than Europe. 110 in the summer here in Sacramento is not unusual and I would say there are places in the US that get much colder than Europe in winter (but I could be wrong). Hence, more need for heating and cooling, I would imagine.
You're right, the variety in climate slipped my mind - I should really compare some state more like the Netherlands in climate. As is, this is just going to be apples and pears
400 something. It's mostly the computer running all the time. All my other machinery is pretty new and efficient but the computer gobbles it up like crazy. Don't use my other high waste stuff (beamer, iron) enough to have much impact.
I'm going to start heating our apartment by burning old tractor tires on the balcony. That'll fix the bills.
