Seems stupid, but it's their decision. No one appears to have asked them to.

They're just switching the game he's getting sent to. It was going to be at the University of Virginia… in Charlottesville.

I could easily imagine some white supremacist morons seeing his assignment to Charlottesville as a subtle sign that ESPN was standing with them. It was a lose-lose situation.

It's still buck crazy. Are people REALLY so nuts they can't tell the difference between "Robert Lee" the Asian guy on television and "Robert E. Lee" the famous Confederate general who died nearly 150 years ago?

Most likely they just want to avoid any association with recent controversies. Hardly a decision motivated by the desire to push a political agenda.

Yes, Dayton. They're still acting retarded. Nobody knows if it's going away this time. That's why Quest and 14th are defending this.

    No, they're not.

A strange time in American history. The current generation's guiding principle is to avoid offending anybody. Hurt feelings are the bane of the Millennial's existence.

It's sad to think that America's "Greatest Generation," that fought WWII and defeated the Axis powers, gave their lives so emasculated Millennials with declining sperm counts could whine about microaggressions and safe spaces. :(

This doesn't sound right. An Asian sports announcer on ESPN?

Shouldn't he be in the accounting office or IT department or something?

ESPN is a train wreck. A network populated by oversexed ex-jock meatheads.

I do like watching Pardon the Interruption. Kornheiser is often amusing.

I don't watch ESPN but sometimes when I'm waiting for a UFC show to start on Fox Sports after work their sports people (one show has a white guy and a chubby black guy) seem to have their act together.

Lack of hysterical wailing is not the same thing as defending. I don't watch college football and I don't care who broadcasts the games.

@14thDoctor even said it was stupid! Which it is, just not the kind of stupid you think.

ESPN has been playing on the left-wing a while, and apparently hurting itself by interjecting politics into sport.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with cord-cutting or the proliferation of league proprietary networks. It must be all about politics, it must…

ESPN has a product, and it seems paying customers for that product are decreasing. Quite likely ESPN is losing some viewers because of 'cord-cutting' but that doesn't negate the reality that they've introduced politics into sport. ESPN having embraced leftwing politics has become a news item in and of itself, and a topic of conversation in the mass media - I didn't make this up as a story - I've seen it repeatedly as I flip around, particularly around earnings' season.

HBO Go doesn't seem to have problem growing. ESPN should be smart enough to grow their business and overcome the same challenge faced by all content providers - in fact it's uniquely situated to grow, with a near-monopoly on much of sport content.

Lemme guess, are you a leftie?

    True.

Have they really? Or have they just covered sports stories involving politics in a way not to everybody's liking?

"Becoming a news item" doesn't mean much in this day and age, when news is driven by manufactured narratives. Is there any concrete evidence of left-wing bias?

Their near-monopoly is a thing of the past. Every pro league and major college conference has its own proprietary network now. People who want to watch highlights can go online and see them anytime they want without having to wait for SportsCenter to come on.

If you like. Doesn't change the fact that ESPN's woes are due to market forces, technological changes, and their slowness to adapt to same.

statement from ESPN - which is perfectly reasonable which means right wing hysterics won't be affected
