    Ethnocentrism:

How have we allowed leftist elites to pour this swill down the throats of American college students? All cultures are not equal.

What always got me was the fact that the female professsors who parroted this idiocy in class were also the same ones who would turn around and wearing their feminist hats decry the oppression of women under most middle eastern islamic regimes. The feminism they trotted out to browbeat unsuspecting students with vagina power curiously went underground when the discussion turned toward the relative merits of various cultures. Then it was all about how the ugly white male American had to divest himself of his narrow worldview and accept with open arms other cultures, regardless of how backward they were or how heinous their practices.

Ethnocentrism as a concept is intellectually bankrupt.

It's political correctness that's the con job. Ethnocentrism is just a symptom of the bigger disease.

They taught ethnocentrism in my anthropology class in college, but it was more of a "your culture is awful in every way and everybody else's is superior" rather than of trying to learn about cultures objectively, which I'd say is pretty near impossible without the basis of your own culture.

It would be like trying to learn Latin without knowing any other languages at all beforehand.

But I don't understand why some people are so afraid of certain things (often stupid things) being taught in college - in my observation my peers and I were already pretty confident about our beliefs and reasonings and couldn't be swayed by the (rare) extremist professor's rantings.

I think it's a crock of bullshit, but that's just my point of view.
