Has anyone mentioned Longmire yet? Tough guy sheriff, guns, Katee Sackhoff, guns. Thought you guys would be all over it.
is that on a network? i thought it was cable, that's where i saw the ads. Cable series are on such an eclectic schedule that it's difficult to keep up with what's new, since they don't adhere to the traditional fall premiere concept. Another upcoming cable series is the "Dallas 2.0" thing coming up soon.
I hadn't heard about it until I saw a promo during Hatfields and McCoys. I've set the DVR so I can check it out.
I can't help it. Gordon Ramsay is my guilty pleasure. Tomorrow night, Hell's Kitchen, Masterchef and the new Hotel Hell all premiere on Fox.
I LOATH ALL "reality" shows with one exception. I intensely dislike, but not quite loath, "Lizard Lick Towing"...sort of in the same sense as "I'd rather be shot to death as set on fire and burned to death."
I liked it. It's no Justified (at least not yet), but it was entertaining enough. We'll see where it goes.
Checked it out as well. Like Nova, I'm always more interested in the characters than the whodunnit, and not only were there enough breadcrumbs in the pilot to keep me interested, but the whodunnit unraveled at a nice easy pace. Not sure if I'll stay with it, but I did enjoy it.
I hate to add a new hour casually, particularly on cable channels when I have a hard time remembering (I LOVE Justified and I still missed the last two hours of the season because I forgot it was on) and even more so when said show is not available on Hulu or some other site (see previous whine about Justified). So if a show is "pretty good" I'm not sold - what about the show makes it something more than "cops in cowboy hats"?
I didn't watch Justified, so I can't compare, but interesting cast, for one: Robert Taylor - granite-faced at first impression, but quite a range of subtle emotions. (An Ozzie, but he's mastered "American.") Think early Henry Fonda. Katee Sackhoff - a slightly calmer, more nuanced Starbuck. Lou Diamond Phillips - the local "Good Injun," bartender and informal liaison with the local rez. (And still fine looking post-50, IMO.) Interesting backstories for each: The whodunnit in the pilot was one of those "Oh, damn, I should have seen that coming!" plot lines, as opposed to one where you can figure it out before the first break. If they can sustain that, so much the better. There's also wide open Wyoming scenery (if it was actually shot in Wyoming), local characters, and of course enough guns and gun talk to satisfy any WFer.
There's an interesting bit of casting news on the new series Hannibal, based on the Thomas Harris books on Hannibal Lecter. It seems that Mads Mikkelsen (LaShiffe in Casino Royale) has been cast in the role as Hannibal himself. I personally think this is an excellent piece of casting. I'm glad they did not try to cast an actor who would remind everyone of Anthony Hopkins, which would have failed miserably. Mikklesen has that air of mystique about him, along with an element of danger. Great choice!
No mention of Taken 2 yet?? Loved the first one. Browsing on my phone so cant be arsed doing the youtube coding to link to it. Feel free to do the hard work for me. Trailer looks quality!
Just watched an episode of Longmire online at A&E. I thought it was very good. They are only offering one episode at time. Doesn't let you let catch up with past episodes.
I only care about NCIS, I watch practically nothing else. Wondering who was killed in the bombing. My guess is Vance, and that Ducky survived his heart attack.
This thread is about TV shows, not feature films. They just announced today that Dexter will end after next season. Seems right, the show's been on forever and some of the seasons have been hit or miss. Last season was the best in awhile, and now that Deborah has discovered her brother is a serial killer, it's going to change the whole dynamic between them. I'm really looking forward to the new season.
Casting news for NCIS in the Fall: David McCallum will return. Brian Dietzen (Jimmy Palmer) has been promoted to series regular. Diane Neal (CGIS Abigail Borin) will return. Jamie Lee Curtis will not return.
On Monday, July 9, "The Closer" will air the first of its six final episodes. Kyra Sedgwick will leave, but the show will be reborn as "Major Crimes", with Mary McDonnell, as Captain Sharon Raydor, in the lead role. Detectives Provenza, Flynn, Tao and Sanchez will be regular characters on the new show. Cable television has taken a big hit, as "In Plain Sight", with Mary McCormack, has also aired its final episode. Here's a short video for fans of [YT="The Closer"]JIX0LsYuUHA[/YT]
I finally took in the Longmire pilot the other night, what with Littleflow Too being awake and all. Gotta say, it wasn't bad. Sackhoff was just about right, and I was happy to see Lou Diamond Phillips working. Like garamet said they've set up some interesting angles to explore, and I'm betting the young turk deputy ain't the douche he's made out to be. I'll try to catch up on the rest of them before vacation next month, cause after that, it's...
