Woot!!!!!! First GTA, then Assasians Creed, then Devil May Cry and now maybe Final Fantasy.

FXIII was the only reason I was going to buy a PS3... Let's hope SE sees how much more money they'll make, making FF multi-platform. There was actually talk about this 2 years ago, hopefully MS will pony up some cash to SE and bring us some FF awesomeness.

Well, at least my PS2 will always be cool, like The Millenium Falcon, the NCC-1701, and Robbie The Robot.

    The PS3, not so much.

If FFXIII is available for the Xbox360 then I will never give the idea of buying a PS3 another thought!

I still need a new DVD player, and this will be the cheapest Blu-Ray for awhile.

If all you're going for is HD capable DVD player, then you should hold off until a standard is established. In the meantime, up-converting DVD players work very nicely on HDTVs.

    I wouldn't plunk down $600 on a potential beta-max.

    EDIT- to UA

Yeah, then they'll use that double-written trick to make all movies Blue-Ray and HD-DVD on the same disk, and you'll be kicking yourself for not going 360. :diacanu:

But it'll play all my PS2 games, too. And I can hear the disc drive in my PS2 readying itself to take a gigantic dump all over my enjoyment.

They're already doing that, it's called Total HD, or something to that effect. There are already a few titles released in this format.

Saw this all coming a mile away, can't remember who specifically but one of the Squeenix higher-up dev-heads already took off for Microsoft. Think it was the guy in charge of projects like Dragon Quest.

OTOH, it could be HD-DVD which is the future "beta-max", so why should I shell out $600 for an X-Box ($400 for the system, $200 for the HD-DVD add-on).

Christ! Not this shit again! I visit a video game forum, and they've had M$ fanboi's post this topic all week long, and just when you think it's died....

Means FFXIII will be moving to the Xbox2. :dayton:

No. It simply means that it's in discussion. And you can bet Sony is in talks with Sqeenix to lock it up only for the PS3.

Exclusivity for FFXIII has been discussed a zillion times since such a thing existed. What the frenchman is saying is Sony is discussing making it exclusive to the PS3.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. The speculation right now is that once Sony has used up the current NTSC hardware they will be manufacturing PS3's like the PAL version, which uses software emulation for backwards compatibility and only supports about half of ps2 games.

I wouldn't be too surprised if some lovely hackers find a way to upload an emulator patch that lets you play PS2 on Xbox 360.

There goes another bullet into the PS3. I'm waiting to hear that they lost MGS4.

Out of the box, no (or extremely limited). However there is an updated firmware from Sony that enables software emulation, although the range of supported titles is still limited.

I never owned a PS2, therefore backwards compatibility isn't an issue for me. I have no PS2 games.

I haven't owned one of these console systems since I had a N64. I used to play Star Ware Rogue Squadron endlessly....

Waitaminute! I've had one of those before. For two days!

There were no Atari 2600's because they were out of stock, so my dad got me one of those. It included a game called 'Spiders' where spiders would spin their webs to the bottom of the screen. If the web got to the bottom, you couldn't move to that part.

It sucked, and there were no good games for it, so we returned it and eventually got an Atari 2600, but as a third party system called the Gemini.

Since I learned recently that you can use an Xbox 360 like that new Apple TV thingy I'm suddenly slightly interested in getting one. Not really interested in gaming on it but when it's there...

Of course the Apple TV alone is interesting too. I could stop burning DVDs just to carry a movie into the other room for beamer action. Yet it's overpriced and the Quicktime/MP4 format sucks salty donkey balls. MCE might not be as cool and elegant but at least it reads non-proprietary file formats.

And Assasin's Creed was gonna be multiplatform from the get-go...
GTA IV will probably be a timed exclusive, 1st on PS3 then 6 or 12 months later on Xbox360...

Why bother at all? Why not just wait for a player to come out which doesn't cost $600 or more?

It could be neither will be the format.

You know in less than a year, there will be <$400 players out.

LOL! This coming from a Sony fanboi.

Square-Enix has never been exclusive to one company. They use to develop for Nintendo, then went to Sony, yet still release titles for Nintendo and Sony. AND, they have worked with MS for FF11.. why? Because they lost their butts on it, so they needed to release for another system in hopes to recoup some money. This was talked about years ago and I will not be surprised one bit when it's released on both platforms.

Here is the problem. There are not enough PS3's out there. Square, if they only release this huge budget title on the PS3, will lose money. Developing games for the next generation consoles is ULTRA expensive. This is why most titles anymore are not exclusive unless they are first party titles. Square, if they're smart, will release on both consoles or they'll lose their ass.

Why would Sony need to lock up a title they should already have 'locked' up? haha.

MS has deep, deep pockets. Yes, it is just a rumor, but let's hope it turns out to be true. I don't know why Sony fanbois get all angry about it. Why shouldn't the FF series be able to be enjoyed by an even bigger audience?

You do know that Capcom just did the same thing with the Devil May Cry series right? Devil May Cry 4 will be released on the 360 AND PS3 at the same time.

Of course, I wont' believe anything until Square says so.

No, Assassins Creed was going to be a PS3 exclusive, but now is multi-platform. Mainly because the 360 is much cheaper to develop for than the PS3. This is why most multi-platform games are developed for the 360, then ported to the PS3. What's funny is that the multi-platform games run better on the 360 than the supposed 'superior' hardware of the PS3.

GTA4 is going to be released on both systems on the same date. You'll be able to download exclusive content over XBox Live as well, though I wouldn't be surprised if you'll be able to do the same on the PS3.

Regardless, MS is so far out in front currently and Sony's sales in the US and EU are not very good. If they release Halo 3 this year, I don't see Sony being able to catch back up. If FF13 comes to the 360 as well, it'll make it even easier for MS.

While the 360 isn't going to quite catch on in Japan, it doesn't make or break a console anymore. MS would love to get a niche in the japanese market for sure, but it's not as important as it once was.

Gee wiz, how'd you know? You haven't been here long enough to know that, yet an eccentric stranger like you shows up and tells me I'm a Sony fanboi. :soholy:

I never said Square wouldn't develop for only Sony or Xbox exclusively, so you can stop putting words in my mouth. Didn't Sqeenix say they were going to develop some Final Fantasy games for the Xbox2 as well?

What I find laughable is the fact that Xbox fanboi's take a statement by a French EMPLOYEE of Sony saying exclusivity is in discussion and interpreting it as "FFXIII is coming out for the Xbox." Laughable and showing a lack of reading comprehension skills, but not surprising, coming from some of the semi-literate Xbox worshippers on the 'net. (Not saying all owners of Xbox, just ones that are the ADSD inflicted, OMG! LOLZ! 360 IZ TEH ROXX0RZ variety.)

Sony is definitely behind in terms of the number of users that have their system installed, and they realize the future of their system may very well depend on games like FFXIII and the MGS series being exclusive to their system. THAT'S what the French dude was saying. They were in talks to make XIII exclusive to the PS3.

Nope. Wrong again. FFXII was doing alright. It's because the people in charge of Xbox pretty much bent over for Square and held up a sign saying "TAKE ME" that Square finally decided to put a game which was already close 3 years old on the Xbox. It's also because having a Square title gives M$ credibility as a game system manufacturer that they begged Square to do it. And since it was already released on the PC years ago, it was easy to port it over to the Xbox, since essentially, the XBox is just another PC.

With ultra successful game franchises that include Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, the Mana series, and now their own anime by the name of Full Metal Alchemist, I don't really think Sony needs you to tell them which systems they need their games to be released for in order to not "lose their ass". :rotfl:

Haha. Which is why Sony is discussing exclusivity. :)
