@Paladin The national anthem sucks. It's musically a piece of shit. I also do not stand for the anthem*, nor do I pledge allegiance to the flag.
I wouldn't do so to any country who claims me as a citizen; I show my citizenship by the way I conduct myself, not by overt displays of 'patriotism'.

No. No one will ask them because we'd rather continue to duck the issue. This nation needs to have an open, honest and uncomfortable discussion about race and justice. How can you claim that all men are created equal and we are one nation indivisible when two separate standards exist solely based on the color of one's skin? Wouldn't it be hypocritical of me to hold my hand over my heart and swear that this is the case when I honestly don't believe it?

And for Donald Trump, Draft dodging ass-Donald f'ing Trump... to sit there and try to claim the high road on this when he blatantly disrespected the gold star family of Captain Homahun Khan last year? He just made the matter worse. He is in no position for moral leadership on anything.

Those protesting are exercising their First Amendment Rights...rights which this country was founded upon. Rights that veterans fought to protect. Surely the actual rights are more important than symbols of the country that was founded upon them, yes?! I may not agree with their views, but I'll support their right to exercise them.

And for the record, pointing out/protesting flaws with your country's {whatever...fill in the blank} isn't disrespect...it's a sign that you care! Back in my single days, my parents told me that they could tell that I cared for a particular girl I'd been dating because I had occasional complaints about her. "You don't really care about {someone} until you start finding faults" they said. It makes sense in an odd way--if you don't really care, then {whatever it is that bothers you} wouldn't matter, would it?

Im not sure how people can really jump on the disrespecting anthem bus. Everyone knows the purpose of the protest, the majority of the protesters know and appreciate the history of the country and what the flag stands for. Pointing out that things could be improved further is not really a mark of disrespect.

Infact i would suggest burying heads in the sand and not acknowledging the existance of social problems in terms of equality, is more disrespectful to the values that flag and the country is supposed to stand for.
