Seems like I got the Media Central scoop on this. Glad to hear Joss Whedon won't be involved given his terrible behavior being revealed.

Eh, it's one of the properties where so much of the appeal of the show was the Whedonisms and the actors themselves. I think the time for a good return has passed.

Why is the choice a Disney remake or Whedon?

Disney acquired the Firefly IP when they purchased a portion of 20th Century Fox. Whedon invented the IP back in 2002. I'll be honest... I liked the Firefly show. I went to the early test market shows of the movie and even bought the DVDs... but I've pretty much forgotten most of it. The thing I remember the most was the enthusiasm of the fans of this show. I'd be interested to see what Disney can do with this IP.

Oh, god. Can't wait to see another favorite defiled by some creatively bankrupt hack .

In this case the creator of the property was also a creatively bankrupt hack, so maybe that's the perfect recipe for a remake. :chris:

*I'm still 98% sure that River was a slayer, the experiments done on her were to artificially unlock her powers, the Blue Hand guys were from the "official" Watchers Council, and Book was part of a rogue Watcher society started by Giles. :async:

This is sad. Disney’s entire reputation is based on all that is good and they have a team of lawyers to prevent even the slightest rumor of anything untoward. Firefly is the anti-Disney. Any re-boots from Disney will destroy the entire story.

Well, my days of not taking Disney seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

Meh. The Mal/Serenity elements of Firefly are basically a bastardized Han Solo prequel, and the actual Han Solo prequel recognized that by borrowing liberally from Firefly. (Train robbery in space!) I'm sure Disney can pull it off easily.

*I've even heard before that later seasons of Firefly were supposed to involve Mal and the crew finding themselves in the middle of a new civil war. If you squint you can easily imagine River as a Jedi.

I always figured that at some point the "Searcher" from s2 BR25 would reach them, given the whole "Earth that was" thing.

Why not Hulu so it can still have adult themes?

Right? You think they'd want to make it as distinct from The Mandolorian as possible, since they're crushing the whole "jaded freelancer adopts a magical child, also it's a space Western" thing.

I'll give it a shot, but I'm skeptical that it'll be as good without Whedon (though his absence is understandable) and because of the family-friendly angle.

First step to convincing me you're actually making Firefly and not just generic SF that uses some similar tropes:

Hire Tim Minear as showrunner. Full stop. Whatever he develops from there, leave him the fuck alone and it will be fine stuff.

    Show me.
