OH is asthmatic, so he automatically gets called for a flu jab every year. I won't get called by the NHS till I'm 60 or 65, can't remember which... But my company offers flu jabs to all employees. OH asked his doctor if I should get the shot to help protect him. The doctor's answer was that it really wasn't worth it given my age and health profile. But do others agree? I know garamet is totally in favour of them, but what do others think?
Here the CDC recommends the following people get vaccinated: Children aged 6 months up to their 19th birthday Pregnant women People 50 years of age and older People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including: a. Health care workers b. Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu c. Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated) You can get flu shots in a lot of supermarkets and pharmacies, so it doesn't require a visit to the doctor or a clinic. I've been getting them for about 15 years now, except for last year, so I highly recommend them.
My job requires me to have the annual flu shot, Hep vaccines + boosters, and periodic TB skin tests along with annual and random drug testing.
As do I and I've never (knock on wood) gotten the flu. I have sinus allergies along with chronic ear infections (get at least one every year).
I'm supposed to but I'm still not going to. I got the flu a couple of years ago and it sucked ass, but I lived through it. The flu vaccine only protects you from the strand that they guess is going to be the most popular so your chances of still being exposed to it and getting it aren't decreased all that much anyway.
TBH I wouldn't get one unless I was living with someone particularly vulnerable. I've never had 'flu and prefer to have as few vaccinations as possible.
