It's rather sweet they chose this way to protest, but it's kind of silly. The call-out provision is for exactly what was mentioned earlier, where posters who can't leave each other the hell alone and derail a thread by arguing over top one another, or just the shitty call-out threads where people think Wordforge is here for their own personal petty pleasure.

In all honesty, the threads they've started as protests actually belong more in the Green Room.

People like to be dicks. There's no contesting this.
The whole idea of the Violet Room, though, was to clean up the Red Room without deleting threads, or banning posters. I get that people are resistant to change, but sometimes it needs to happen anyway. Cower, kowtow, or back down too much, and they'll resist everything, right down to the tiniest modification, expecting you to give in. Then the board remains aimless, and drifting.

The people who are currently shouting the loudest are the ones who have the most to lose if Wordforge actively tries to bring in more members by being anything approaching reasonable. It's interesting how this board is clearly a niche community, even though it's supposed to be general discussion that invites everyone in. It cannot be both, and it will suffer if its identity remains split.

Is it TK Lite? Or is it its own community where everyone is welcome, as long as they abstain from trying to run off, or make other members miserable with constant harassment?

I remember the good ol days when "protesting" mod decisions involved week long meltdowns and Nazi trolling.

    Those were the days :)

I moved the call out threads, and left the geography threads alone. If they have the stamina to keep going for the long term, we can always lock them in.

So, parody threads can stay, right? I remembered Volpone had his own legit thread about Charlotte and maybe those are parodies of that.

Parody threads are fine, I'd imagine. It's all about volume, really. Right now, the fun is in spamming up the Red Room with as much detritus as possible, in the hopes of reversing a decision. It would be like asking people to abstain from calling someone else "fuckface." Incidents of "fuckface" would rise 1000%. It's human nature to press the button that says "do not press," regardless of what it might actually do.

All honesty, I'd rather that they all be left, and we just use it as daycare for Baba and occasionally others. But right now the stated purpose has been use it for call outs, keep that clutter out of the Red Room. So for now we should stick with that.

Again, if that's what you guys want, that's fine. I'm just saying, some of these guys would poke holes in the lifeboats of the Titanic as the ship sank, just to spite the crew telling them what to do in an effort to save their lives. They genuinely do not care what happens to Wordforge. People like gturner, for example.

I don't think Stallion and Spaceturkey are in that category. But already, the atmosphere has lightened up and Baba has been posting his schtick in the VR with nary a complaint.

True, but this whole idea was, at least at first, centered around the idea of locking gturner away in a room where could be a lying shitheel as much as he wanted, and not fill up the Red Room with said bullshit that then gets indexed by Google. What is to be done about that?

ETA: Also, am I putting the Violet Room as a Red Room subforum? If so, I can still do that anytime.

He's slowed off at the moment, and ene in the few he's started in the last few days, I've noticed to tone has changed to something closer to being a decent non-liar.

I say that as long as it won't be indexed by creating a subforum that we put that stuff there. There's no need to advertise to the next Neutered Zone Refugee that this is a free for all that will accept the crap that got them banned

Alrighty, then. I can go ahead and move the Violet Room into the Red Room as a subforum.

    Moved!

Also, for some reason, I think of the Violet Room as the Obamacare of Wordforge. :P

Even though it wasn't my proposal I won't stand by and allow the Violet Room to be slandered like that. :nono:

There's actually a lot more activity, which is a good thing. It's kind of funny, because we aren't even using the room as intended. Asking people to use it for spam and call out threads should be uncontroversial. If people want to lose their shit, they should hold it for a time when we actually decide to lock somebody in there.

True, but as you've seen, the outrage has become far stronger in recent years. I'll be able to build that kind of reputation in half the time of the others.
