There's some money issue surrounding this new update, and I think Nick mentioned what that all was in another thread.
A new Gallery is high on the list of Things To Do. There are some technical issues to resolve, but it's being worked.
The rumor is that they're gone, but I'm not positive because their should be backups somewhere. That being said the software that is being planned is different than the software we were using; so even if they are saved they might not be salvagable. Money isn't an issue; I offerred to spring for the software if it was necessary if only to get my old job back. AFAIK we're just waiting for Nick and O2C to figure out how to incorporate the new gallery without breaking anything.
The pictures are still there. If you check a thread with pics from the gallery posted, the pics are still there. They're still on the server but the gallery software isn't accessible. So yeah, I think it's most likely that the pics will stay there but you probably won't be able to edit them anymore. Or find them.
Here's the story with the pictures. At some point, I was under the apparently mistaken impression that the files were gone. They are, AFACT, still there. I say AFAICT, because I can't see more than 2000 of them, but that may be a limit of the FTP server. However, I have seen pictures, an MP3, and a WMV, so I SUSPECT that the files are all still there. The technical issue we are trying to resolve is whether or not the gallery software we want can be modified to accept non-graphical stuff: text, movies, mp3s, etc, as right now it currently only works with GIFs, JPEGs, and PNGs.
To ask a stupid question, why can't we use the old software that ran the Gallery? Is it just incompatible with the new version of vB?
They're still there. The "We Voted for Jeff Davis" clipart in my sig is linked to the Gallery. The pic is loading, so the Gallery must still be there.
Nick and I are working on it now...though he's doing all the heavy lifting and I'm doing all the complaining. He's implementing changes as fast as I can come up with anything and it is starting to come together. Kudos to Nick!!!!
I'm pretty damn confident on saying the old pics are gone...sorry, Nick might have something else to say on this, but the new gallery seems to use an entirely different codebase.
if you find the old porn threads, the pictures are still there. See, the gallery uploaded it to the database, and the gallery just had them displayed. The links and urls are still there because the database was not cleared, just the gallery was lost. Therefore the pictures are still there but you can't find the links. I bet one of the admins could try and find it in the database if you told them the name of it and what it was
Hardy har har. As if I don't 12 notarized copies of the will in safety deposit boxes strategically placed around the United States and Europe to ensure that no matter what happens I get all my money! Actually, I just had put some old pics up there that I don't have anymore. No I don't know the names and I'm not sure if I even posted them.
Hmm... Here's a possible workaround: Dig up some old threads you posted pictures in. Quote your posts. This will give you the path to the old gallery. Do this enough times to figure out the naming conventions. From there it's a matter of trial-and-error.
This post is like going to Border's and saying to a clerk, "I'm looking for a book, I don't know the title or even if it was written...where can I find it?"
