http://www.cheatsheet.com/entertain...ersy-is-george-lucas-out-of-line.html/?ref=YF The flannelled-one has done nothing but bitch and complain that everyone didn't understand his PT films (because they were CRAP!), and now he's bitching that Disney threw out all of his shitty ideas in favor of making a good movie! George, you got your $4 Billion.....shut your fat, hairy, uber-rich piehole! You're a terrible film maker, and you've always been a terrible film maker. Go play with your tinker toys and let the grown-ups go about making movies that people might actually enjoy for a change. Don't go away mad, just go away.....far, far, away.
Who cares what he says? As the creator of Star Wars, regardless of how shitty the prequels were, he surely has a right to an opinion.
If it wasn't for GL you wouldn't have legions of fans with something to moan about, which is the ultimate irony where the Lucas hate is concerned.
The prequels are not as bad as some fanboys like to claim. They mostly don't measure up the the OT, but that's a fairly difficult task. Many enjoyed them, while acknowledging that they did not represent the best of Star Wars. As for whether or not Disney tossed his ideas, I really don't know, nor do I care. In selling, he pretty much acknowledged that he was no longer the person to make these movies, but the movies should still be made by somebody. He has as much right to opine as you or me. As for being a terrible film maker, I think the fact that we are discussing his film universe nearly 40 years after the first Star Wars is a pretty good indication that he has at least made a few good movies.
I think Rick's point is that it's Lucas who put in the initial effort, not a bunch of manchildern on the internet.
I know that. But I personally care little for the idea of constant regard for someone because they did something great 40 years ago. I always had the same opinion about Gene Roddenberry. Why do we give a damn about his "vision"?
Because without his "vision" you wouldn't be posting your pathetic threads about space battles. I tire of the nerd hate for Lucas, Roddenberry and even Rick Berman. Yes, there are many criticisms of all three, but without all three Star Wars would not exist and Star Trek would have died 30 years ago. People judge on the end result, not the contribution.
The same would've happened to Star Wars and Star Trek without all those "nerds" you deride. Probably even more so with Star Trek as it never enjoyed the broad appeal for most of its history as Star Wars.
Of course the nerds played a part, but they did not not light the spark...that what's you can't grasp. You know the UK TV series Doctor Who? It has lasted 52 years. It never had a creator. It had a team of people that contributed to it's creation. That should prove to you that dismissing an individual's key contribution is foolhardy.
The prequels are visually pretty but otherwise a hot mess. Lucas screwed the pooch big time with those films.
I think Lucas "screwed the pooch" when he decided that having "Han shoot first" was an important change because he didn't like the fact that "Han Solo is a hero and the first thing he does in his first minutes onscreen was kill someone".
Han is not the hero. He's a murderer, a smuggler, a thief, and a terrorist who allied himself with violent religious extremists who thought they should be in charge of all people everywhere, and who maintained their power through mind control, subversion, and assassination. Sure, it would have been easy to write a space opera where that wasn't the story, but Lucas didn't do that.
Who did Han murder? Don't say Greedo because from a strictly American standard Han would've been considered to have acted in self defense. And how is he a terrorist? From what I've seen, all of Han's anti Empire actions were against an organized, uniformed military force. Hell he used to be an imperial officer.
Oh, so Greedo doesn't count because he's not human? Han was a smuggler. When the authorities tried to apprehend him he killed scores of them. He killed Greedo in a bar. Then he killed several more police at the Mos Eisley spaceport. Then he killed more who were flying Tie Fighters to intercept him. Then he killed more who were searching his ship (which he won in an illegal card game from another smuggler). Then he killed a whole lot more during his escape. He finally aided in the killing of tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands. And that's just in the first movie. If you are working for a drug cartel by smuggling cocaine into California, and you end up killing about fifty San Diego cops, LA cops, California Highway Patrol officers, and some unformed Marine and Navy personnel, how does that make you a hero?
Technically speaking, Lando was not a smuggler, though he did spend a lot of time in black or gray markets.
This. I enjoy Episode 3 because that's when all the interesting stuff happens but 1 and 2 are just too boring to watch. People forget that Lucas only directed Episode 4 in the OT and had many other collaborators when making them. They were sorely missed in the prequals particularly in the writing
The original tune? Yes. Yes, many people think that is one of John Williams' better tunes. It's quite catchy.
Where did you get that? IIRC Leia barely kissed Luke while aboard the original Death Star and that was it.
