The District 9 Blu-Ray came with a playable demo that I blew off until today... You can also download this demo on the Playstation Network (PSN) for free. I decided about a month ago that I was going to give up trying to find a game franchise that would kee me as entertained as the Call of Duty franchise, so I was just going to stop looking. Sure, there were exceptions... Arkhan Asylum, InFamous, F.E.A.R. 2 but those were far and few inbetween. Just ran through the demo and I have to admit that I'm thinking if giving it a chance when it is released in March. I'm even thinking of picking up God of War I & II that I saw on sale recently for $29.99. Has any other PS3 owners given this demo a spin? Has anyone played GoWI or II and can tell me if it's worth picking up? Thanks!
GoW I&II are both really good games. The God of War collection is worth it, though the graphics look really dated when displayed in HD. See, when they said rendered in HD I thought, "aw, cool, this will look great"..... that isn't the case. Though graphics don't really stop the game from being good. Can't really argue with two easily obtained Plats either.
Have you tried the playable demo on PSN? I was blowing it off and finally got bored enough to give it a play... It's pretty fucking sweet!
OK... I picked up the GoW Collection and I guess I'm about half way through GoW I. This is a fucking awesome game! Kind of old school with respect to the gameplay and set path, but still new school with the 3D and camera controls. I've always been intrested in Greek mythology and culture and I have to say that this really brings that to the front. Right now, I'm looking for Pandora's Box in the Temple on Titan's Back. I'm in Hade's altar trying to traverse the scaffold near the ceiling. More challenging than I thought it would be.
Finished GOW and started GOWII... I have to say now that I am even more eagerly awaiting GOWIII. What I really like is that this game forces you to think. Some of the situations you wind up in have no forthcoming solutions... but you can figure them out... The others are just impossible without a game guide or a youtube video walkthrough... but that's cool! To put it succintly, for this price, the God of War Collection is a must have for all PS3 owners, IMHO.
Well, I finished GOW II last night and I'm officially suffering from withdrawl. What a climax!! If I had played this game in 2007, I'd be truly pissed! How in the hell do you end a game on a cliffhanger?? Since I only have a little over a month to go, I can deal, but if I had to wait 2 years, I would have spazzed out. The battle with Zues was epic! This Kratos guy doesn't do anything on a small scale. I wasn't able to upgrade all my weapons, so I figure I must've missed some orbs somewhere. I'll give it a week or two rest and start over. Meanwhile, here is the top 10 cinematic moments of God of War III... from machinma.com.... so far! http://www.machinima.com/film/view&id=44825
God of War III Trailer released at the VGA's: [YT="God of War III VGA Trailer"]gm88Blmlwjk[/YT] the new dynamic lighting engine really creates a sense of realism. Looks very ground breaking in terms of graphics.... and the score sounds spectacular! I have to say that the first 2 GOW's had great scores and this one seems just as good so far.
Game Trailers TV airred the most revealing GOWIII game play footage yet. I DVR'd it, but I haven't been able to watch it yet in order to see the awesomeness yet due to the snowpocalyse. My power will probably be out all weekend. Here is a link. I any one is reading this, please go to it, watch it and let me know what you think. SCEA is trying to take full advantage of the Blu-Ray capacity in their games and GOWIII is supposed to be the first of a new generation of gaming.... so they say. Twitter is on fire about this footage right now. http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/gametrailers-tv/85?sd=1&ch=1
God of War I and II were fucking awesome. I don't know what I'm going to do about III, however, as I have a 360 and not a PS3. :flow2:
I was actually able to download the God of War III episode of game trailers via the PlayStation Network and I have to say that this game looks amazing. I am amazed at how the technology in these games gets stunningly better in just a matter of months now. Batman Arkham Asylum was released in August of 2009 and at that time, it had the best graphics I'd ever seen on a video game. Here we are in March 2010 and God of War III is just spectacular as far as graphics. The dynamic lighting engine combined with the Blu-Ray capacity is amazing. If you haven't yet, check out the the link in my previous post. People were saying that the graphics are so realistic that it must be a cut scene or CGI, but it is all actual gameplay! I think I'm making an early call here for Game of the Year 2010. I'm even more excited now that I've seen this episode.... 15 days to go!!
A few minutes ago on Twitter: you still there, Rob? the reviews are pouring in and I haveto say that it's been a while since I heard so many superlatives mentioned about one game. This is going to be big!
Please. Unless one of the busty females emerges from the screen and blows me, no single game is worth a $300 console. I'll just end up playing it over a friend's house.
I'm up to the final battle now... [spoilers]While the battle with Posideon was awesome, by the time you reach the end, it's a distant memory. What stands out in my mind are the battles against Cronos, the Labyrinth and Hades. [/spoilers] this game looks and sounds great. It's amazing how this franchise has had three different games with three different directors yet other than leaps and bounds in graphics, the gameplay and style remains so high. this should definitely get a Nom for some Game of the Year award somewhere. I really want to say a few more things about it, but I'll wait to give the uninitiated more time to finish the game spoiler free.
Would it be worth it to get the God of War Collection that was made specially for PS3 so I can play GoW1 and GoW2 before trying GoW3?
Absolutely... at $29, you can't go wrong. Both GOW I & II were named GOTY. Despite the graphics, the gameplay is really good and engaging. ... and the story in this franchise is pretty essential to maximum enjoyment, IMHO.
Well, I've played through the game 3 or 4 times now and given the whole experience some thought... The battle on Gaia and the finale against Posiedon is probably the best level/boss battle in video game history. I know I haven't been playing games for very long, but the scale and moving camera is unlike anything I've ever seen. You are on the back of a huge being called Gaia who is made up of rock and Earth, who is climbing Mount Olympus when she is attacked by Podiedon, who is manifested as a creature mixed between a horse, a crab and a snake... made out if water. You have to see it to believe it. The way the team rendered water is revolutionary. Since you are on Gaia and she's climbing a Mountain, the ground beneath you is constantly shifting and you often find yourself hanging upside down. I'm no programmer or 3D computer artist, but I'm sure those that are will see this and ask themselves "how did they do that?" This level/battle alone should be enough to earn God of War III the title of Game of The Year. There are several publications that give these out, but I'm talking SpikeTV VGA.
Just realized that I've still got that $25 Best Buy gift card. That, plus this thread, have convinced me to get the God of War Collection (I & II) for the PS3. After all, it'll only be $5 + tax after the gift card is applied.
or...not. Apparently my youngest kid and the Mrs. went together to get it for me as a belated BDay present from the kid. Oh well, either way...
The people over at IGN.com put together this little feature of Kratos' conquest during his 4 titles... A little porno called "Mounting Olympus." from the God of Porn. http://ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/886158/god-of-war-iii/videos/gow_mountingolympus_spc_041410MI.html
