I'm familiar with Facebook's weak list system. The biggest problem with it is that people realize immediately when they are on limited profile or a restrictive list setting. Google's way is far superior but getting a mass migration will be hard. Facebook came in at the right time to steal from a weak myspace. Facebook is much larger than Myspace was at its peak, bringing them down would be a monumental task. I just don't see it happening.
I'm sure the executives at Ford, GM, and Chrysler all said the same kind of thing when the first Toyotas showed up in America.
I don't think FB is going anywhere. But social networking is huge, and Google will be able to integrate it into what they already offer. Two is better for competition.
