Guardians 3 comes out at the end of next week. I just figured I'd start the thread about it now. What are folks' expectations of Guardians 3?
I am not watching it because of the controversy around starlord. I can never see the character the same way again and it just ruins things for me. I mean who the fuck punches sleeping thanos and wakes him up just because his green chick is dead? There is being a dumbass and then there is being the guy who helped destroy half the universe because he couldn't wait to smack the purple guy around for killing his only hope the get laid.
Oh dear god this movie is so good, but not for the typical superhero movie reasons. Some of the set pieces are too long, and I found almost none of the soundtrack interesting which sucks for a FotG movie but otherwise, man. I think this is the secret sauce of all movies of this sort: do I CARE about any of these people? If one of them fels pain, do I? if one of them dies do I take it personally and weep some about it? There's VERY little of that in most action movies, including suicide movies. I mean, I LIKE Thor as a character but they would have had to work VERY hard to make me tear up if he'd died - or I thought he was dying - in his last movie. Gamora DID die in Endgame and I appreciated how it moved the plot but it was to small a slice of an otherwise massive movie to get to you. That's not a problem for this movie - whether or not a life is lost and I'm not spoiling that for you - the real impact of an imminent impending death in terms of narrative (for example, there's one scene fairly early in which I thought they had killed Drax and it MEANT something to contemplate that it might be a thing they just did in front of me. One thing I will spoil a little - there's a scene later in the film where another character tells Rocket "this was your story all along" and that provides a very good lens to watch the whole trilogy through. Quill is essentially the audience proxy, like Doctor Who's companions - but the focal point is Rocket, if you haven't seen it i think it will help you to know that's the key to the film
I saw Guardians 3 yesterday & thought it was alright but confusing to me somewhat. I've NEVER seen the first 2 movies of the Guardians Trilogy & my ONLY and FIRST exposure to the Guardians was their . But if people liked the first 2 Guardians movies they should DEFINITEL go see Guardians 3 while it's still in the movie theater. PS: Mods , I was thinking that at this point it might be logical to merge this thread with the MCU Phase 5 thread. What do you think?
