I would say "not every American is that way," but then how are you supposed to know that? Any U.S. citizen you meet on the street could be that way, and you wouldn't automatically know it. I'm sure a lot of the racism, bigotry, and xenophobia you see posted on the internet, that comes from the U.S., is said by people who might smile and wave at you on the street. That's what makes it so insidious. During the day, they smile and wave, while at night they wear bed sheets and burn crosses.

The effects of racism would seem to be quite invisible to those who do not experience it. Coming out as trans is certainly not the full fledged prejudice as racism is, but I rely had no clue the extent it screws with you. The whole world may not be against you but it is really hard to see that when everyone backs away from the shitstorm. Even people who are like you step back because they don't want to get hit again. It may even be worse that it doesn't happen all the time because then you are treading in a mine field wondering if all your efforts in life will be thrashed because some bigot did not like you. Even if you do not get hit you see it hit everyone around you, and that sometimes hurts worse.

I do not want to say it because I know where censorship can lead to, but there has to be some line. I want to be able to insult people and call them out, but I cannot say I want words like nigger cast about for the sole purpose of alienating an entire group of people for no real reason other than being a racist shit. I know people should be strong enough to take it, but I don't want them to have to, and I don't want to live in a world where we have to put up with it because hurting a racist's feelings is bad. Given the choice of ramen and volpone getting hurt or some black person having their day ruined so the Klan boys can have their word I am fine with booting the racists.

I objected to the image because, in this instance, I thought it went too far and was uncalled for. I also find such images of death deeply disturbing on a personal level. For the same reasons, I refuse to watch execution videos, I won't watch any of the sick al-queda or ISIS snuff films, or vids of people being blown up by bombs.

I sure hope he was just trying to be an edgelord, though in any case he went way too far.
