I suppose nobody here cares, but I do. First of all, the hair, the dresses, and the CARS oh god the cars meant all kinds of orgasms for me. If you have seen the original, I don't think the remake will disappoint. I'm about as hardcore as Hairspray fans get and I went in to the movie expecting to hate it. and I have a very small list of things that disappointed me about it (they developed Tracy's parents' relationship more than Penny's and Seaweeds, Penny never got her P, Penny had a lollipop instead of a radish, Penny didn't march, other silly little things). The message of the movie stayed the same even though small things were changed, and I suppose that's the most important part. Penny was always my favorite character and I thought Amanda Bynes would ruin her by doing her I'm crazy, hyper, anorexic girl thing but for once Amanda Bynes actually acted and I thought she was really good. Travolta was good. I would have preferred a real drag queen but I think using Travolta was the right move to get more people who aren't Hairspray fans to see it. I suppose if you're not obsessed with the late 50's and/or aren't into musicals this movie won't do much for you (I'm guessing 99% of WF? =D) But if you do like musicals or do have a thing for the late 50's then go see it 'cause it rocks.
I say this as someone who really, really likes the John Waters original . . . This Hairspray is a good fun movie, and pretty entertaining. That duet with Walken and Travolta . . . It lacks the harsher edge and stubborn weirdness of the original, but you can't expect anything else. I liked it for what it was.
Wow, they left that in? I was pretty sure that would have gotten cut for time (Although honestly, I can't think of one song that could be cut and the movie still make sense ).
The Waters one was kind of a guilty pleasure...it's just so weird it's funny. I may have to see this, though I hate to admit it.
... That's just...stupid. God, the whole "We're girls and we're growing up" was a pretty big part of the damn story. Plus, I liked that musical number. "Miss Baltimore Crabs," on the other hand...how that made the cut is beyond me. To Tamar--you'll really enjoy it.
There's this whole scene in the original movie where she irons her hair to straighten it. It's supposed to mean she's inventing her own style instead of following the hairspray crowd.
Christopher Walken? I liked it when he was the Bond bad guy and laughed inappropriately when he died. His best work IMO!
