As the creator of WF I think she could actually get away with device, might take a little artistic license, but it works IMO.

If the word is meant to be devise, then the line is grammatically incorrect, because the proper form would be devising. That said, poetic license allows the Eagles to get away with it. And contextually, either word works, so

Pretty weird! Back in the day, not all that long ago, I'd been online for just a few years and a part of any given community for less than that, and the Internet was this new and strange thing . . . and now it's part of everyday life, and I've been on WF and several other sights for a large fraction of my lifespan.
