Yes, but do know that the conversation occured at all? Nor have we been able to replicate Tesla's efforts with the kind of efficiency he claimed to have. Finally, Tesla clearly had "problems" of one sort or another. He's described as being very difficult to work with, insisting that he have a set number of napkins (each folded in a specific manner) by his chair while he ate, and refused to be in the presence of any woman who wore pearl earrings. Certainly sounds to me like he had OCD, if not some form of autism.

Oh, he definitely had some problems. So did John Nash. Luckily for Nash, tho, medical and mental sciences were far enough advanced to be able to diagnose and control Nash's problems. Had is not been for that, would we believe that he had those conversations with other mathematicians of his time?

If there was no corroborating evidence? Probably not. Photos don't prove what caused the falling out between Tesla and Westinghouse.

Oh, that's true. But, I think, considering their previous relationship, and the way things turned out after Tesla's invention ... It's not improbable.

When you say "produce", I assume you mean "transmit".

At any rate, we CAN do that and in fact it was used for government spy equipment (like hidden microphones) by at least the US and Russia. However, the curtain fell on that usage one TVs became popular: it completely destroyed the TV signal which made it not so "secret".

As far as I know, Tuckerfan is correct about this.

If the government has reproduced Tesla's supposed results, or even surpassed them, I'm not aware of it.

Where were you on August 22, 2008?

Not sure Pow's 100% correct in what he's saying. I know that the US found a strange looking piece of pipe in a giant US seal that had been given by the USSR as a gift, and that there was considerable speculation by the US government that it was some kind of listening device planted by the Soviets which used broadcast power. After the fall of communism, it turned out that this was not the case. The Soviets had no electronics of any kind that they could have used for a listening device, and had merely planted it in the seal, knowing it would be eventually found, as a way to screw with the CIA.

    Apparently, not reading Wordforge!

When I gave up paper magazines thinking I'd get all my news online, I didn't realize how far behind the ball I'd get.

Guess it's time to renew that Popular Mechanics subscription ...

I'm not going to discuss policy here, but saying something and then failing to back it up to "a few different people"s satisfaction isn't trolling.

To quote a post at the top of the forum:

I don't know if she's proved her point, frankly, I don't really care about the topic nor know enough about it to say either way.

If this is "trolling," so is going into MC and posting something like, "The new Star Trek movie would have been watchable if it was about DS9 instead." People make provocative statements outside of the Red Room all the time, and sometimes they back them to everyone's satisfaction, and sometimes they don't.

The only advice I can really give you is "Don't take it so personally." And if you'd like to discuss it further, the place to do so is either via PM with me or in the Help Desk.

    Oh, yeah, one more thing.

You've "won." Don't push your luck.

Just chiming in to say Kyle has handled this matter in an appropriate manner. And the discussion is fascinating.

Pardon me, but this is a bit ridiculous. To post such a long comment, but then say, "if you have a response, don't write back here, PM me." And if I say something, then I look like the jerk mouthing off to an Admin? I'm sorry but that is too conveniently encumbering, and I am not going to play that game (though, I will keep it brief).

No one is disputing your interpretation of policy. A policy argument was hardly ever made. And yes, while I do think people should aspire to certain minimum levels of discourse (especially outside of the RR), I also understand that that is a personal standard and not an enforceable, practical one. Recklessly imbuing controversy, while indulgent, is of course not against the rules.

But I do at the same time, want to take note of when such a thing does happen; as a way to 'establish precedent', or at least, a propensity to do such a thing. Particularly since this is not the first time Jenee has done something like this recently. I have observed her in the last few weeks taking Red Room threads and discussing them in the other forums; and using the inherent civility of the other forums as cover to slip in snark. One can only assume the reason she does this is because when she tries the same thing in the RR, she is routinely handed her ass.

And while even that may or may not be 'trolling' -- I know we have a rule like that for Blue Room threads, but don't think/know if there is something similar for RR threads -- let me just skip right to why I even bring it up:

It is not because the admins or anyone else needs to do something about it. On the contrary. Let it be eminently reiterated, for all parties involved, that if you have a Red Room grievance, don't be a little bitch about it and run your mouth all over the rest of the board where you know you're less likely to get called out. Instead, be an adult about it and take your beef back to the Red Room.

I don't think that is too much to be expected.

Meh, I was commenting more on the repetitiveness of it all.

Bock, I have no opinion on you one way or the other, but I asked you not to PM me, and yet you have messaged me again. I know that you and Jenee are friends, but I'm not sure what there is to discuss other than what I've said publicly. So let's try and not get carried away with behind-the-scenes machinations. Can you please stop with the PM's? Also, I have hundreds of PMs and do not like having to unnecessarily clear out my mailbox to make room for spam private messages.

It really is a trite matter at this point and has already distracted from your thread for far too long I think. So please, let us return to the topic at hand.

Nothing kills an interesting topic quicker (outside the RR) than bitching about the mods, way to go eminence
