In fact, just a couple of days ago I was having a conversation with someone about how I thought that with the mixed bag of presidents we've had, it was amazing we'd bother having a holiday at all. I definitely think Washington was a good, if not great man and well-deserving of our taking a few moments to remember. He's yet another example that even someone with major flaws can still make major contributions for good.
Actually, it started as Lincoln"s birthday on the 16th and Washington's birthday on the 22nd. I guess most public schools had a week off in Feb. Being it was public schools it was probably tough to remember how many birthdays that there were to celebrate. Sooo, it was changed to president's day. I'd like to see the holidays celebrated ON the correct day, not creating a three day weekend for commerce.
