Anybody used a HDTV as a PC monitor? Are they much good in that role? I've noticed that a lot of them have a VGA input among other things... and they go much bigger than any PC monitors I've seen.
HDTV's only go up to 1920x1080 in resolution. So you're not getting a better picture along with the increased size.
I've used my 40-something inch HDTV as a monitor a couple times. I've even watched some movies that way. I used something called an HD15 cable and it looked great. I mean, compared to my 15 inch monitor that's only 1024x768, it was a lot better. The only problem is that the display doesn't stretch all the way to the edge of the screen, so there's an inch or two of black screen surrounding the actual computer display. Yeah, but one would most likely be sitting several feet away, rather than a foot or two like with a computer monitor, so it's just as good. Granted, if one sat as close to the HDTV as one did with a computer monitor, it might not look that great.
So... a desk in the middle of the room, facing a far away monitor? Otherwise, it's ridiculously uncomfortable for anything but HTPC use.
