I got a new computer and so far, I like it, Except, I forgot to print out all my bookmarks. Now I still have my old hard drive (gave to computer up before I found out didn't have the bookmarks. Of course the geek squad said they got all my bookmarks - only got the ones that I did recently. My question, is there a way I can get my bookmarks from my old hard drive or not? I've found the browser's file in the hard drive, but I don't know if the file I'm looking at is what I need or not. Can any techno genius help me? I really don't want to go back to the geek squad, but if need be, I will and get the hard drive put back in the old computer and do the old-fashion way - copy one by one.
If you used Firefox, get on your old hard drive and: - go into your user profile - go into your AppData (may be hidden by default) --> Roaming --> Mozilla --> FIrefox --> gibberish folder (there may be several, just poke around) The exact details might differ depending on your Firefox or Windows version, I don't know, but that's the general idea. There should be a bookmarks.html file. Copy that over to your new computer, in the corresponding folder. That will overwrite any existing bookmarks on your profile on your new computer, but should give you your old bookmarks back nice and easy.
have that problem taken care of - but now i still have one more irritation - and Geek Squad claims they've cleared it up BUT I still get these damned pesky ads in the lower right hand corner with obnoxious noises. Usually I can just mute and go on, but when I'm doing educational classes on line and those things pop up ... Any suggestions on how to tell this new computer I HATE THOSE DAMNED THINGS AND KEEP THE HELL OFF?
I use firefox and the bookmarks are synced with my iPhone. The update in realtime. Might be something to remember for the future if you have a smart phone.
Actually I went back to the geeks and politely bitched. Got my old computer put back together and now just taking my time getting the URLs from my old computer to my new computer. Next time I get a new computer I swear I'm gonna make sure the geeks understand how dangerous I am with the instruments and they make sure EVERYTHING I need is on the computer the way I want it.
