In the first season, I could have sworn there was an episode that clearly showed that Sylar's ability was that he understands how things work and can alter his body to mimic it. When he decapitates his victims and examines their brains, that's what he's doing. My wife says that she thought he actually ate peoples brains. I never thought that, but apparently when Claire asks him if he was going to eat her brain this was a widely held assumption. So did I make it all up? Is Sylar's powers like I've stated or are they yet to be revealed?
No, you're right. Sylar's original power was that he had an innate ability to figure out how anything worked, mechanical or biological. Zachary Quinto is wasted on Heroes. He should play a demon on Supernatural. That show's rocking the house so far this season.
I think the brain eating thing was a nod to fans. I forget how that got started, but its been half joke/half speculation since season 1. It started going around the spoiler forums then as a way to describe what Sylar was doing. I think it might have been Kristin from E! who started that with some off hand remark like "we might get to see what Slyar does with those brains, no word on if he's eating them" or something like that. You know, if Sylar and Peter really are brothers I wouldn't doubt that they have the SAME exact power and Sylar doesn't really need to cut heads open to mimic powers.
Sylar and Peter's powers seem to parallel one another. Peter's powers are the benevolent version of Sylar's. Twins? The company took Sylar away? Ventimiglia and Quinto are the same age. It's doable.
I seem to recall Sylar originally eating the brains, but the producers backed off showing it at first, until they backed off the idea altogether.
I don't think it ever played out that way. A good way to find out would be to go and rewatch that first episode where Matt is at the crime scene when Molly's family gets killed and listen to what the cops say about the victim's bodies. If the eating thing ever played out on screen there might be some mention of it there.
Ok, so with him becoming a "good guy", what if it turns out he can somehow get what he needs without killing the person he's getting the power from?
I don't like the fact that there seems to be no limits on his powers. At some point, hell already, IMHO he will become invincible.
^ I'm sure he'll be given some limit. Too many powers make him explode or the wrong two powers mixed together are fatal.
Peter and Sylar's limit is a lobotomy or decapitation, as we've seen with Claire. As for the whole brain eating thing, I don't remember him ever eating brains. In his backstory episode, he didn't eat watches to understand how they worked, he just poked around at them.
i had always thought he ate them until claire asked about it i think they may have said it through a policeman extra in the first season when they were examining his crime scenes
In the pilot, the cops ask Hiro "what'd you do with the brain? Flush it down the toilet? Eat it?". Something similar happens at Parkman's interrogation.
They obviously never established on-screen until recently how Sylar accomplished his copying of powers. The fact that he actually scooped out the brains and talked in his message about his uncontrollable "hunger" led to speculation that he was literally eating the brains. I wouldn't say he's wasted. And Zach Quinto played a demon/warlock guy on "Charmed," so been there, done that. They can always depower him or come up with some situation that would make him outmatched. He still has weaknesses. He's apparently susceptible to drugs. Apparently there's someone Future Peter has met that can swap people's consciousnesses, so Sylar could find himself in an ordinary person's body again. Heck, on Monday, he almost got beat by just three villains if HRG wasn't there to have his back.
They are all susceptible to drugs. I wonder if the Haitian still has the power to stop him. Oh and he didn't almost get beat by three villains. He has Claire's powers now. There is nothing to stop him.
The episode description was weird I thought it was going to be about Suresh but he wasn't even in the episode.
I know, they can't even bury him like Adam, he has too many other powers to bust out with. If he ever got Hiro's powers they might as well end the show. Which brings up another plot hole, why doesn't Sylar go after Hiro's time stop ability FIRST THING after Claire ?!?
I don't think Sylar really knows Hiro. It seems as if they only met that one time in season one. Hiro and Ando seem to be outside the circle of heroes and villains. They are their own group saving the world at the same time the other group is trying to save the world.
There's still the "knock him out, decapitate him while he's unconscious" plan, not to mention stabbing him in that one part of the brain that controls power and leaving the knife in. (Same thing happened to Claire and Peter in Season One.) Or Molly, for that matter.
I figured she was talking in a more metaphorical sense now that we know powers can be given. That's what I assume the formula is: a perfected version of what Suresh was monkeying around with.
Yeah, that's probably what it is. God, Suresh is a dumb ass. Supernatural has got Heroes beat in every way this season. A teeny, tiny show on a crappy network with no budget at all, and it's a better genre show than Heroes. It wasn't before, but it is after season 2.
I wouldn't say that just yet, because near the end of episode one(two?) Dr. Suresh started feeling "funny" after a while of having the powers....
He's got the same problem as Niki: the writers have no idea what to do with him so they just have him go around doing random, stupid shit.
That's inevitable when there are too many characters to write for. At least they trimmed the fat with Nikki and made her into a new character. No hemming and hawing this time.
