MY trusty CRT is finally giving up the ghost, so I'm on the market for a nice LCD. The trouble is, what I really want is a cheap 1600x1200 or 1920x1200. I find that lower vertical resolutions make it awkward for me to read full-page documents.

Does anyone have any recommendations or know of any good round-ups I could look at?

As for good LCD reviews, I'd recommend AnandTech or MaximumPC. A lot of the reviewers out there are really hacks.

What sort of price range are you looking at?

I find that IPS panels really do destroy TN panels when you use them side by side (in terms of color and image quality), but on the other hand, I was plenty happy with 3 TN panels before I got spoiled by an IPS panel at work... since then I bought myself an IPS panel (24", 1920x1200), and it's really tough for me to enjoy looking at TN panels.

On a "general recommendation" note, despite problems they might have with their computers, Dell does in fact have an outstanding reputation for nice LCDs.

I can't comment on their TN offerings but generally the IPS models they sell (UltraSharp line) are the best reviewed out there. Of course, you are looking at spending 500-600 on an IPS panel, vs maybe 250 on a TN panel, so the price difference is not really minor.

    Thanks for the advice.

I'm leaning towards the Samsung T240HD right now. IPS would be great, but I can't justify the outlay on something like the Dell 2709W. At least, not to Mrs. Spider, anyway... :diacanu:

Last one I bought was a 19" HannsG one. Which has worked very well. It was around £100 about a year or so ago. Can't quite remember the model...
