That's what I just said, and the Wife was like, "What?", and I was like, "Remember The Day After?", and she was like, "Yeah. It was scary.", and I was like, "We're so watching this!"
I remember being scared to complete death after watching "The Day After" as a 10 year old. I tried watching "Threads" as an adult (it was on YouTube for free at the time), and I couldn't stomach it.
The Day After was filmed partially in my hometown, so I'm well familiar with it and what went on with the filming there. I was... 16 or 17 I guess when the film crews came to town. Tail end of the Cold War, we thought we were all gonna die anyway. That being said, "Threads" is probably a lot more powerful as a contemporary piece. Not sure which I prefer, if either.
The Day After is good, but it takes waaaay too long to get to the money shots. And that ending...I would have been pissed if someone squatted in the ruins of my former home. Threads is just disturbing. Anyone ever see that TV Movie about a terrorist bomb going off in Charleston Harbor? A little cheesy, but the aftermath of the explosion was pretty well done. Best nuke scene in movies remains T2, of course.
