For more permanent, durable yet comparatively inexpensive (and also somewhat SF-looking) housing solutions, see Monolithic Domes.

I've been on a project identifying used containers in the Gulf Carib region, and have had a hard time finding many in Houston. The price for a used 20 (containers come in various sizes) ranged from $1550-1750.

Don't know if that is 'cheap' for the usage intended, but thats just my .02
