I found out why our account got moved to a new server.

    Hello,

Your account is no longer fit for a shared hosting environment. We have moved your site to a tempoary server to prevent down time. You will need to upgrade your plan to a semi-dedicated or deciated service for service to continue. Your account will remain on the tempoary server for the next 7 days while you make a decision. Please let us know what you intend to do with the account.

Ah, webhost-promise syndrome. First offering 'good' deals and then, when there is actual traffic, they want to see more cash. Same shit as with the very first webhost we were on - all unlimited. Until there was traffic

Worst case scenario timeline is roughly as follows:
9:01 PM PDT - board shuts down, we run a backup, either manually or using the backup script if the host will let us.
10:00 - database is downloaded to either Nick's or my computer.
11:00 - software is transfered to the new host
~12:00 AM, depending on the size of the gallery pictures - database is uploaded to new host
12:30 - database is installed on new host
1:00 - Domain is re-pointed to the new nameservers.
As soon as we can, we will reactivate the board, run a few tests, and possibly upgrade to 3.6.5. This should be relatively painless because there are no template changes, and we have hacked few if any of the changed files. This will occur depending on how dependent the AdminCP is on us having a domain name. If it's not at all, this will happen shortly after 1:00 AM. If it is, as I suspect, this will have to wait until the DNS changes are propagated as far as Nick or I, which could mean we'll have to wait until late Friday.
Last, the board will be reopened by Friday 9:00 PDT.

    I'm thinking a couple changes.
Use SSH and Lynx to download the database backup directly to the new site, cutting out the middle man.
Do something similar with file backup and then gunzip and untar the file backup.
No upgrading to 3.6.5, since there are no template changes we might as well just patch it.

I want a backup in case something goes wrong, or hostgator decides to be assholish.
The file backup I wasn't too worried about. I've still got a copy of 3.6.4 on my computer, and we didn't customize THAT many files, and I'm pretty sure of what we did to the ones we did customize. Then again there are the plugins to consider, so yeah, after rethinking it, I'd like one of us to have a backup until we've got everything running to our liking. I'm willing to hold on to them, since I have lots of HD space ATM, but you do have the faster connection.
Not really following on this one. Care to elaborate?

Ah, this would be better explained over the phone, your number hasn't changed has it?

I will call you after I get out of work at 11:00 (8:00 your time).

Also, I logged onto the server Elwood, but WHM didn't seem to be setup for us, could you contact crisishost about this?

No, but my cell phone is currently missing. Hopefully in my car at the train station, otherwise sitting in Amtrak's lost and found or worse. :\ I won't know until 8-ish. What do we need WHM for anyway, and are you sure you're connecting to the right port? it's <deleted> for WHM. I can't try right now because I'm about to leave work.

Gentlemen, you seem to have the situation well in hand. However, allow me to make the observation that you ALWAYS need a back-up of everything before doing this kind of stuff.

Preferably two back-ups, in fact, in case the first one is corrupted.
