I think the title says it all. Every time I try to load my avatar from photobucket, I keep getting told to browse my computer. Where is the step that lets me load from photobucket instead?
And if that isn't an option, why isn't it?

As far as I know, the software only allows direct upload from your local device. This may have to do with making it the user's responsibility to assure rights to the image, whereas a direct upload from a Web site might make the board owners liable. At any rate, all you need to do is download the image from photobucket, then upload to Wordforge.

Yeah, really, you get a copy on your desktop you just have to throw into the recycle bin anyway, but it's not that much of an ordeal.

Right click on the image you want, save it to your computer. Then click on your name at the top right, select avatar, then upload it.

Did you ever think that some of us like to store things somewhere other than our computer so that it doesn't take up byte space? even if it's just a tiny byte space? Or how about those folks who are now using iPads and other such hardware with less than optimal storage for things like avatars?
gul, thanks for explaining the possible why we can't use off site for our avatars any more. Maybe the next upgrade will find a way to let us do it and NOT be a problem with licensing.

If you have the image on your computer and upload it as an avatar, you can delete it from your computer immediately after.

If you're that terrified of fragmented bits eating space, you've got a crappy old computer.

I'm pretty sure any computer (or phone, or whatever) that's old and crappy enough for saving an avatar-sized jpeg to be an issue, also isn't capable of running a web browser that can handle Wordforge. Or possibly any web browser at all.

Especially since part of showing Wordforge is downloading all of the avatar images on the site in order to display them (admittedly, each in perhaps a smaller file size if cropped, but still, all of them!!).

Remember, kids: Your screen is neither a window nor a telescope. Every bit that appears on your screen is also in your computer.

Once it's been uploaded off your computer you can then delete the image.

@LizK: were you thinking that you had to host the image? It's hosted on the Wordforge server, you just need to upload a copy, then your computer no longer has anything to do with it.

Actually, I did. Because I believe it was done that way once upon a time. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

To little dicky boy and tafkats (and anyone else who decided to be sharp and critical instead of helpful): Not everyone concentrates on what's new on and about the web. Some of us have other jobs and stuff that take up our free time.
You could have said the same thing with less acerbic tone and gotten the message across.

No criticism intended. Until gul's post, I didn't realize that's that the question was. (I doubt Wordforge has ever worked that way, since it would require your computer to act as a web server and your avatar would disappear from the board every time you turned it off.)

You mean those sexy, single redheads are now in my computer, waiting me to rescue them and giving them sweet, sweet rest in my bed? :chris::polarslam2:

Sorry - been busy with RL so haven't done more than pop to see what is and isn't a hot topic. Won't get a free moment until around March believe it or not. I will check back then and try it to see if it works. And if it doesn't I'll check back with you and the other gurus
