Sounds very interesting Mike. On the topic of 'groups', a group of witty, intelligent people getting together for conversation and stimulation sounds nice. The idea of bringing work in progress for someone to read sounds dreadful, really. I don't need anyone to tell me what's wrong with my stuff, I am a horribly cruel critic of my own writing and I am fairly sure that in an unguarded moment I could discourage someone else from writing altogether. So my criticism is not something I'd share unless I could weigh my words for a while and knew for a fact the writer would not mind harsh words.

But stimulation to write and support if for some reason it's not happening, that would be great. Crosis' "Make it dirty and sordid" sounds much like advice I give myself on a regular basis - to forget about any audience and realise I can write whatever I want to write, not holding anything back, spreading my wings to fly where I want to.
