For some people, their laptop is their life. For others, its simply an impractical burden. For those that find an invaluable use for them, please tell us exactly what it is that makes you love them so.

Personally for me, I see no real use for them. People steal them, people lose them, they are far more difficult to upgrade than desktops, and the batteries in them tend to run down far too fast for me to find them practical

What do you you think of them

Pros: lightweight, able to do everything a desktop can, and can go with you. Today there is GPS and other things to be done to keep the laptop safer from thieves - and make it less practical to steal.
Cons: you can't really add on to it the way you can with a desktop; you don't get as many USB ports as you can use (thank god for hubs) and it can get overheated easily.

Why do I like it? I can go on vacation and still carry on daily tasks that need to be done, like paying bills and visiting on BBS.

Now days, laptops cost about as much as a desktop setup and take up less room on the work desk and other places.

Depends purely on what you plan to do with it. If I didn't travel so much I wouldn't even own one. But seeing that I do, it's indispensable when I'm on the road. I'm posting this on my laptop from the airport terminal right now.

I find them to be incredibly practical. As a student and a net addict, I couldn't imagine living without one anymore.

    I have both now.

For working and gaming, I use the desktop, as I find the touch pad gets on my tits. Plus the storage and processor on this are fantastic, so its also where my music is. Plus a good size monitor and a decent set of speakers.

For convenience, I like the laptop, great for travel, to use somewhere comfy, like in bed, or armchair. Only draw back is the battery. Mine is a 9 cell 85whr battery, what every the whr means. but will last 5 and a half hours i think tops.

I should be the proud owner of a shiny shiny laptop/tablet on tuesday :D

I want a laptop as well as a desktop for the following reason:

I need to work when I'm in london, as opposed to uni-town, I need a PC for that, and brining my PC home means my parents need to get involved.

With a laptop, I can work on train journeys, I can bring it to the library, and most importantly, when I have my house at uni, I can leave the desktop there, and should my parents annoy me too much, I can leave sooner than planned, as I won't have to rely on them driving me 2 hours up north :D

A desktop is sufficient for my lifestyle but I guess it depends on what sort of work you do.

I don't expect I'll ever need to buy a laptop... I'd rather upgrade my computer every couple years.

I'd possibly get a PDA though.

My desktop is upstairs in my library. When I'm up there, I'm kinda isolated and there are times when that's desirable. Unfortunately, I'm cutoff from the TV and family at times when I don't want to be. That's where my laptop and wireless router come in handy. I can be anywhere in the house or outside and be connected.

A lot of motels have wi-fi now, so I can connect when on trips. Even many restaurants are hotspots now, but I don't really take mine to those places. That can be as annoying as cell phone yakking in public IMHO.

I've had my laptop for a year-and-a-half and can't imagine life without it.

Not even close for similarly equipped models. :) Desktop is still the most economical.

I have a laptop for work, I still find myself using it as a desktop (hooked up to an external monitor, etc.) a lot more than a laptop. It is nice to be able to take it with me if I need to, though.

I'd rather game on a desktop any day of the week, over a laptop. I don't travel a whole lot, so desktop is much better for me. It's a lot cheaper and I can upgrade it every 6mon - 2 yrs.
