Well maybe not hate. Hate's too charged of a word. Loathe, destest, dispise, hope he dies of cancer, abhore, object to his very existance, deel nothing but disgust and repugnance at the very thought of him breathing the same oxygen I am.

Just needed to get that out.

Who the fuck is Neil Young? It's that granola-faced singer from the 1970s, right?

    Southern man
    better keep your head
    Don't forget
    what your good book said
    Southern change
    gonna come at last
    Now your crosses
    are burning fast
    Southern man

    I saw cotton
    and I saw black
    Tall white mansions
    and little shacks.
    Southern man
    when will you
    pay them back?
    I heard screamin'
    and bullwhips cracking
    How long? How long?

    Southern man
    better keep your head
    Don't forget
    what your good book said
    Southern change
    gonna come at last
    Now your crosses
    are burning fast
    Southern man

    Lily Belle,
    your hair is golden brown
    I've seen your black man
    comin' round
    Swear by God
    I'm gonna cut him down!
    I heard screamin'
    and bullwhips cracking
    How long? How long?

I don't like a lot of Neil Young's stuff, but there are a few songs that are okay:

    • The aforementioned "Rockin' In The Free World"
    • "Harvest Moon" and "Unknown Legend" (both from Harvest Moon)
    • Most of the Trans album from the 80s.
    Otherwise, meh.

Yeah, so Skynard said they don't need Neil Young, and Skynard went down in flames, literally.

Man, I'm not much for Neil young save a few pretty decent cuts he's done but frankly Skynard is worse afaIc.

How do you want to cut it? Skynyrd's musical legacy will leave on far longer in every way. Young is destined to stay a footnote in one of their songs. That pretty much says it all.

I'll go one step further and say if I lived to be 120 and never heard another Skynyrd tune that'd be just fine by me! :nyer:

Southern rock to me is like Allman Brothers, Edgar Winter, Elvis, Stevie Ray, ZZ Top, Black Oak, Kenny Wayne, and Marshall Tucker, though they're more progressive country to some. Hell, Canned Heat had more of a southern vibe than they did and they're not even southern!
Janis deserves an honorable mention as well with Big Brother.

Skynyrd was just played to fucking death. I guess that's the primary reason for my lack of love, well that and they just sucked in general. :P

My beef with Young has little to do with his music sucking than it has to do with his San Fransisco style treehugging attitude about things in general and how anyone who doesn't think like him is apparently subhuman, or so it comes across to me as such. The differences he had with CSN and his departure from them was really the best thing that could have happened to CSN&Y because in my opinion CSN was a better band on the whole without him.

Sixty to Zero from Freedom is one worth remembering, it's haunting and choppy sax cuts to the bone. The baseline is entrancing.
No More and Eldorado are the other two I like from that album.

Needle and the Damage Done is another one remembered.

I guess to me Freedom and Harvest Moon were without a doubt my favorites of all of his work, or at least cuts from them. :D

There is that. I hate being preached to by pretty much anyone who comes across as holier-than-thou. I get more than enough of that at church even when I actually agree with the topic.
