The way you've worded that - especially with the last line and your response to EP, it sounds like the only reason you don't do those things is because your current religion prevents it. So ... if you weren't Christian, you WOULD do all those things? If so, you are so not the person I thought you were.
"If it harm no one, do what you will." Deceptively simple, but it's worked for those who truly understand it since well before the Christian era's Golden Rule.
Yeah, how about that? It's a lot easier than trying to reconcile libertarian values with an attempt to legislate morality. If your side paid less attention to victimless crimes and the mote in your neighbor's eye, you be much better off.
I'll take the second evasion as a big fat "yes", to both. Which, translates to "I think everyone would be a scumbag without church, because I'D be a scumbag without church". Aaand, that answers yours as well, Jenee.
Interesting that you would consider that relevant, since other than the first one (and even that is debatable) I would consider that list to equally apply to both Christians and Atheists I know. My religion? I wouldn't want the power, especially given that the fact we can decide on punishments brings up unsettling questions about free will. If forced to though it would basically boil down to "Dudes, Dudettes, don't be dicks. Seriously, just chill the fuck out and be nice to each other ok?"
Then they kill you, then the equivalent of Paul writes a new book saying "the ghost of Bailey came to me, and said tell your bitches to shut up, and bring you a sandwich. Also, God hates fags again".
