It is hard to disagree with this list. It is pretty comprehensive and a good reminder of why the SNES is considered to be one of the greatest consoles of all time.

Some of the games mentioned, especially the top 6, are pure gaming nirvana.

I could quibble with some of the games not mentioned. Castlevania: Dracula X, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Battletoads: Battlemaniacs, Desert Strike, Batman Returns... but overall a pretty good list.

It's a shame they can't really mention those SNES/Super Famicom games that only appeared in Japan. They got some great ones. Final Fantasy V, Star Ocean, Bahamut Lagoon, Romancing Saga 3, Dragon Quest V & VI. All RPGs coincidentally.

Which one? False Prophet, Black Gate and Runes of Virtue (and I think RoV2) all made it to the SNES. I know False Prophet was good, but I wouldn't rank it as top 100 on the console. The rest I haven't played, but they're likely the same story. The Ultima games were good, but not really great. At least on the SNES, no idea how they were on PC (but I assume awesome).

Anyway, there's stuff on the list I agree with, and stuff I disagree with, but altogether it's a pretty good list. I hate lists like this simply because there is no way to get a 100% accurate list that everyone can agree on, but these are games that, for the most part, any kind of gamer would like.

Hightlighted ones in my collection. Last time I went home I was missing a cable though. Once I get settled back in Washington I'm gonna have my parents mail out my NES and SNES (I've got about 3x the number of NES games as SNES) to me and try and find that cable on ebay or something.

Was it the power cable or the one to plug into the TV? If it's the former, you'll have to buy one, but if it's the latter you can use the RF switch from the NES or the RCA inputs from the N64/Gamecube (or an N64/GCN RF switch, whichever you prefer) to fire it up. But yeah, unfortunately the jack for the SNES AC adapter is proprietary, so you're gonna have a bitch of a time finding something compatable...you'd pretty much have to get a SNES AC adapter if that's the case.

I'm sure you can get the cable on ebay. Or in one of those game exchange type type shops.

I play most of these old games on my emulator, but there is something satisfying about playing it on the original system with the original controllers.

Speaking of Ultima, I thought the console versions sucked. They really need to be played on the home computer, as they were originally designed that way.

    Mario Kart should've been #1.

I never ever saw the appeal of turn-based RPG's, or Street Fighter-style RSI-causing button mashers.

I hope they do a similar list for other classic game systems.

It is interesting how many games that were designed for both the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis are very different from each other.

Shadowrun for the SNES is completely different from Shadowrun on the Genesis, although based in the same universe. Same goes for Aladdin, Batman Returns, Jurassic Park, etc...

In some cases, the game is basically the same but one system might have better graphics/sound or just better game control.

I remember playing Captain American And The Avengers on both systems. The SNES version had better sound and visuals, but the game was tough as shit for some reason. It was harder to control the characters. The Genesis version plays more smoothly.

And, of course, there are the debates over which versions of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are superior.

    Mickey Mousecapade
    Lode Runner
    Ring King
    Ikari Warriors

What the shit are those all doing on the list? There's a handful I haven't tried so I have no real reason to exclude them, but these four are absolute garbage! There are dozens of games not on the list that should be there, so why THESE? The rest of the games I personally don't like that made the list I can at least see the reasoning (I dislike SMB3 for example, probably the only person in the world), but WTF IGN? Ikari Warriors? Ring King? Fuck, you might as well throw on Rampage or something. Nice to see some love for Vice: Project Doom on there though.

Gotta disagree with you there, I enjoyed it as a kid and it was still fun when a roommate in college had it.

Although considering your dislike of SMB3, I think your judgement is already questionable! ;)

I'm wondering about the lack of Double Dribble, North and South, and Legacy of the Wizard.

And Duck Hunt should have been WAAAYYYY higher (or lower, depending on how you look it at). In college DH was up there with Mario Kart 64 for drunk party games....

In my opinion the NES list isn't that great. They mentioned all the great games, but I've never even heard of many of those games.

And Fester's Quest was horrible! Lode Runner is a classic, but shouldn't really count on this list since it was released way before on earlier systems and on home computers.

I gotta agree, Legacy Of The Wizard should be on this list, that was a cool game! And I liked Solomon's Key. Anyone ever play that?

And there was a shooter game called Gun Nac which was hella fun too.

And that's without mentioning that I personally liked Conan...

Gotta agree with Duck Hunt though, it should be higher on the list.

And you may have all the great games on the system, but I have almost ALL the games on the NES. Only missing 21 carts for a full set. No, I haven't played them all, but yes, I have no life :P

It's not that I think it's a bad game, I just personally don't find it fun. Never cared for the first SMB either, so that probably has something to do with it. Just not really my thing.

Now why can't they just take the entire Turbografx library and rate it? It's far less than 100 games, so it shouldn't be too hard to do :P

I agree for the most part with the SNES list. The NES list is much worse, IMO.

Blades of Steel and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles needs to be higher.

Blades of Steel shouldn't be ranked higher than Ice Hockey. Ice Hockey was a smoother, better balanced, and far more fun title. Blades of Steel had fighting and minigames in between periods to disguise the fact that it was inferior play-wise. However, both should be higher than they are on the list, that's for certain. TMNT just gets a bad rap because it was far more difficult than it's sequels, but in my opinion that's what makes it more fun. I just understand why it's ranked so low because most people don't like difficulty, especially in this day and age.

Those highlighted were originally released on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and were better than the SNES version. :bailey:

Never liked the Mario platform games but was hopelessly addicted to Mario Kart, possibly the greatest multiplayer game in history. And SF2 was so good that it almost made me want to buy a SNES. Almost.
