No, it means businesses that operate in the public sphere are subject to public regulation. Until you can accept that, there is no basis for talking specifics like smoking bans.
How the hell are they operating in the public sphere, liquor and business licenses notwithstanding as they are regulation themselves? Does the government contract with them? Do they do business in the public square or in government buildings?
Bullshit. It's the same fucking thing, and you goddamn well know it. Pushed through the bullshit filters, we get "Individual rights are subject to majority approval, but that's far too sinister to state overtly." And no, I won't accept that.
Submission's his thing. Look what happened when they asked him to pose for the opening shot at www.goatse.cx
There ought to be limits on what the "populace" may impose on the individual. This isn't even the usual, run of the mill evil majoritism. This is one vocal faction manipulating a PC hot button to it's advantage. How can it not be seen as an outrage? Because the populace is always right?
How exactly are you accomplishing that, just how you are in fact doing that notwithstanding, and tell me now!
Those regulations are no more inherent to a bar than a smoking ban. Bars can, in fact, exist, without them! You are a master of circular logic.
And your numerous attempts to frame the discussion in your terms to paint another's position in a narrow, unimportant box are hypocritical and contrary to what you have said in the past about just such posturing. Pedantic even... Exhibit A: Exhibit B: I think gul can handle exhibits c - f, at least!
You fucking retard. Do you think maybe I provided both of those hypothetical examples with the same purpose in mind?
I don't give a fuck about protecting people from themselves. I certainly don't hang around bars and pubs, either. But the fact is, smoke travels and I can be on a sidewalk and get inundated from the smoke coming out doors and windows. This is harmful to me and people like me. This happens outside places all the time...supermarkets, stores, malls...there is a reason that Hospital campuses are smoke-free. It doesn't take much for some folks to be seriously effected by it. But in Uncle Albert's world, I am to lock myself away and never leave my house lest I inconvenience people with a nasty, dirty habit. I should be able to go about my business without being accosted by smoke. These fuckers can limit their smoking, I fucking can't limit my breathing.
First the Chuck Norris-esque jokes, then a three years late attempt at goatse'ing people. The All Your Base jokes can't be far away.
The market when it comes to selling alcohol isn't free though, since in most places you need a license to do so.
Well, you can't inhale second hand smoke from alcohol. But yes I agree, bars should stop serving alcohol as well.
