A MacBook Pro, specifically. No gaming to keep me away from work.

If he doesn't know there are games, then for him, there are none.

Wait, you guys are insinuating that there are actually GAMES for the Mac?

Or are you talking about Windows emulation?

Maybe they mean Myst. I was referring to games, though, not puzzles.

Throw Boot Camp onto the thing and you'll be set for most games that are out there now, at least with the $2499 model.

From what I've seen, Macs are more expensive and you get less memory/speed/hard drive space.

All the programs that they can't run could probably fill a good sized textbook.

All of the Mac advocates here are actually talking me out of a MacBook Pro. You see, the Mac's gaming deficiency is the reason I'm considering one -- it would be strictly for business.

Yes, I know, I know. I should just exercise better self-discipline and not screw around when I should be working. But what fun is that? Better to remove temptation altogether.

PCs are better for business stuff, according to those Mac commercials. I'd rather be the nerdy business-savy PC than the penniless hippy artist Mac.

I just bought an Intel iMac (first Mac ever) and it blows PC's away. Can't speak to gaming, because I don't don't do any, but in every respect it beats my old systems.

As for Windows programs, you can use Boot Camp, Virtual PCs or something I discovered yesterday called CrossOver which runs Windows programs in OSX inside little things called "bottles". Pretty cool. I've got OSX, Fedora Core, XP and Vista all on one system.

    My $.02.

I want a mac because of its amazing programs, and the fact that it just looks outright sexy. Just look at its white and silver design, its meant to look good. PC's look like a big pile of junk compared to MAC's. They look kinda futuristic, and hell, I just want one. Garageband, FinalCut Pro, Quark etc. Work has gotten me used to macs. I have been hitting alt thinking it was the apple button, same with putting my mouse to the top left and right of my screen. I used to hate macs but now

Growing up, I've always used Macs and PCs. My family has only owned PCs, starting with simple DOS, then Windows 95, all the way up to XP.

The schools had a deal with Apple, and they always had Macs, starting with those simple 10 color dealies, then the cool looking but constantly crashing iMacs, all the way to the G4 and swivel LCD screens. They always looked cooler, but crashed more often. I used iMacs the most in my Journalism class for two years, and I'd need several hands to count the number of times that little bomb would show up and I'd need to restart.

While PCs do crash (it's bound to happen on families computers, my family are idiots), they happened less frequently.

thats the good thing about my PC. It has never crashed. Same with my mac in work. Everyone knows how to use a comp who uses it and it is really nice. You probably used an OS 9 rather than X. OS X Is the shit.

I don't know what people do to make computers crash. Sure, I've had both Windows and Macs crash on me more than once, but I know exactly what I did to cause that crash every time.

There are plenty of gaming options, and there is plenty of Mac software--Windows users still hate the idea that Macs are fully compatible now.

I don't buy anything on whether or not it's pretty, except women. A piece of electronics is a tool, and I buy it or not depending on whether or not it's reported to get the job done.

No no no no no. Stop it. Macs don't do gaming, therefore I can justify to myself considering a Mac for my business needs.

    Thank you.

And I'm shocked and amused to see foil1212 actually confirm the "Macs are for people who believe in Feng Shui" thing. That's just... it's  I'm not bagging on you for it, Foil, it's more of a "Huh!" moment.

And I'm sorry, but if you think this looks like junk:

You can't think much of the looks of the Mac Pro. ^That^, to me at least, looks like something that'd swagger up to a Mac Pro and shake it down for its lunch money, just for the fun of it.

Well as much as I love to hate on Macs, they do have a few good games. Well, pretty much they only have Blizzard games. WC3 and WoW are pretty solid titles though.

Well... that's not a very good one. If you are gonna go mac, get a laptop.

Those all-in-one units are basically laptops anyway.

I actually was very close to buying a macbook or macbook pro (to complement my desktop PC) until the ad campaign came out. Now apple has driven me away from their products.

Why the heck would I pay 3 or 4 times the amount I spent on my PC to get the same computer? Just because it says Mac?

I've used a PC for DJing, Multimedia work (web design, graphic arts, illustration), music composition/recording and gaming.

What can a Mac do my PC can't, that justifies spending 3 or 4 times more for it? My PC never crashes, partly because I always build my own.

I just don't see the point, other than to say I OWN A MAC, I AM TEH L33T!

garageband quark and final cut pro are exclusively mac products. They are my 3 favorite programs.

And yeah, Powa, thats what we have in work and its amazing, but maybe I'll try a macbook.

If you get a MacBook, you remove all possibilities of 3D gaming (fuggin' GMA 950 in there :jayzus: ). If you want to maintain the possibility of after-work games, the MBP is a great machine.

If I never wanted to play games, I'd definitely get a MacBook.

But get the least RAM and HD you possibly can, for whichever processor you want; Apple doesn't gouge for them as much any more, but it's still above after-market prices. The HD on the MacBook in particular is ridiculously easy to replace (take out the battery, pull the cover, and tug on the plastic tab), and the RAM has been for quite a while as well.

The only things that are going to be installed on the MBP (if I get one) will be Final Draft 7 and Power Structure.

Just so hard to justify 1000 bucks for the super-crappy macbook (I want an el cheapo laptop, my desktop is where I do my real heavy lifting). On the other hand Lenovo (new IBM) has some cheap, and highly reviewed laptops for 600 bucks.

I like mine because of the security. I also like it because I have learned how to make it do what I want it to do.

The rest of you can do what you will.
