Yep, the California rockers are playing Auckland, NZ, this Saturday, and it promises to be a wild night. I've got supplies and am ready to hit that joint at 8pm...

Just a brief review of their last album, Revolution Radio, it is basically a good album, but falls short of American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. Even so, it is considerably better than the pop-punk on Uno, Dos and Tre.

I'm hoping they play material from AI and 21CB to complement RR, and leave the pop junk alone.

Not really listened to them since Revolution Radio, which was a damned fine album, and saw them on that tour - they're not quite as fun live as they were in the Dookie days, but still a good band to see.

    Have fun!

Just realized I typed Revolution Radio when I meant 21st Century breakdown!

I'd need a time machine otherwise!

It was a bit of an odd gig, made the huge mistake of getting back with an ex as part of it.

I've only gotten to see them once. Early 2000s when I shot them when they were the opening act for Blink182.

    Great show by both bands.

That was a controversial time. Blink was the current it band at the time and Green Day's Warning: album didn't live up to expectations. Despite having had longer success, they opened for Blink. Luckily in 2004 they turned it around with American Idiot (saw them on that tour in 2005), blink broke up a few years later, and since reuniting have been sub par.

I liked Revolution Radio. Clearly better than the uno, dos, tre! bullshit. What a scam. They had enough material for one good album but they were high if they thought they could put together three coherent albums worth listening too. Sadly, there's good stuff in there but I can't be arsed to figure out what it is - who wants to wade through 36 tracks to find the ten good ones? Not me. If they ever want to revisit that period, they should release (for free) a playlist of how the one album should have been ordered. That would be nice. It's hard to summarize, but they're a stellar band so that's what they should be good at doing.

I would love to see them again but unlikely given the kids and such. Just listened to their whole discography straight through a few weeks ago. It must be hard to make a setlist (though sadly they use the same one every night it seems when they could literally do different ones each night and still put on an amazing show).

When I saw them in 2005 I was with my wife, but we weren't dating even. I was actually with another chick at the concert...my wife was there along with a couple other friends from law school. Very strange to think back on that...

Saw them in 04 at Voodoo Fest in New Orleans. I went there for the Pixies but Green Day stole the show. Great live band (Pixies sucked live). Sonic Youth and the Killers were good as well.

Well, the show was great, they performed a lot of way older material for the first half, which kinda put me off as I don't know it well, but for the second half they rocked out with RR and AI material, all good.

Im going old school rock tonight, off to see Iron Maiden!

A bit gutted that it clashes with a very important game for my football team but it's time to rock. Just leaving the office now and heading for a few warm up beers! :techman:

I'm surprised at the Pixies sucking, seen them three times now and they've always been awesome - although they've been smaller shows.

A few bands I've seen just didn't handle the larger scale stages - I only got to see White Stripes and Motorhead the once (had tix for a smaller venue, but Lemmy got ill :( ), and both were a bit of a disappointment, and saw Fall Out Boy at a small gig which was great, on a larger stage they were just lost. No atmosphere at all.

Seen them a few times, but it was Glasgow a few years back that they were terrible. Watched Maiden Scotland at the sadly gone Rockers, who were much better than the real thing that day - they were supporting a new album and were playing it in its entirety. Everyone fucked off to the bar until Fear came on... A few years later, saw them again, much better!

Hope you had a better gig than I did!

Yea, they were pretty good as expected. Quite a few new numbers but plenty of the hits and a massive Eddie head was impressive. Sound was a bit off for the first half hour which was unusual in the Hydro, they usually have it spot on.

Warm up band Shinedown were good too. A good bit of Rock n roll chat in their set about how Rock is not a genre but a way of life.:nana:

Dublin next week to see Axel, Slash and Duff!:sokar:

Just home, that was fucking amazing. Up there with best concerts iv ever been at. Partly due to it being GnR back to original line up and probably never happening again. 83,000 punters in Slane castle helped. Probably played for at least 2and a half hours. All the hits (couple of chinese democracy interludes sadly) but it was brilliant.

Axel...... "do you know where you are you irish motherfuckers...... your in the jungle baby!"

Slash had an 8 minute epic solo that seemlessly went into Sweet Child. Axel and the piano, quality.

Absolutley blazing drunk, tour t shirts, shorts..... get your rock horns ready Ecky, its gonna be epic!

Enjoyed it, couldn't rock out too much as took my mother (she's 78 and seen GnR more than me...) as it was 25 years since she saw Slash in the band. Someone even had the tee from that tour on! :D

Axl wasn't as good as I'd seen him a few years back, but was still on form, and it was brilliant to see Slash with them. Seen him do GnR tracks with Velvet Revolver and Myles Kennedy, but it's just nice to see him in GnR again.

Fecking tired as I've put in a few thousand air miles this year though.

better you than me! I hate flying unless it's short hops in helicopters and the doors are off. Granted doing that all the way across oceans (if it were possible) wouldn't be too fun I guess. :(

    Spent 10 hours to MAN-SFO, 5 hours SFO-HNL, 7 hours HNL-LVX, 2 hours in a helicopter, 10 hours LVX-MAN last month

And this month, 2 hours to Bilbao and 2 hours back again. No flying for me for a few months!
