OK. Here at Wordforge we are proud of a tradition of users fixing problems themselves. And since I was clearly a part of this mess, it seems like I have a big chunk of the responsibility to clean it up. I've zapped a PM off to TKO, apologizing in private, and I hope she accepts this. She's a witty, charming young woman and I'm glad she's around. Yeah, there was a misunderstanding, but hey. She's a teenage girl. She's entitled to act irrationally sometimes. I'm a grownup. I'll admit I did see her "This title makes me very uncomfortable" post before heading out for the day. And in hindsight I don't know how I didn't understand what she was saying. I guess since I was trolling her a bit I thought I'd just gotten a good rise out of her. What can I say. I screwed up. And all-in-all, I really can't fault Listkeeper for his initial handling of the situation. In a perfect world, with perfect hindsight, I wish he'd have PM'ed me at least once (actually twice--once to try and give me a heads-up and buy-in before changing it and once after changing it to say "Hey. I tried to get ahold of you but you were out.") Even so, that still wouldn't have headed off the initial shitstorm. I don't know if the mods get it or not, but people are really, really on edge over this GoldenEye thing. And this was just the spark that set people off. But if things would've been handled better with me, I could've been part of the "solution" instead of part of the "problem." I could've quickly said, "You know what? Listy tried to reach me, but I was out. Because of that, he had to act and let me know what was going on when I got back." Like I said, 20/20 hindsight. That said, as more than a few people have pointed out, Listy and Nick are two people who really shouldn't try to defuse a tense situation. If you were going to write a textbook on what NOT to do to calm things down, Nick and Listy would be the people to write it. (And maybe this isn't the place for me to mention that, but whadyagonnadoo? ) I have no doubt that both of them attacked the issue with the best of intentions, but ultimately each time they tried to fix something they wound up riling people up worse. Which brings me back to my initial point--here at Wordforge, we take care of things ourselves. The moderators are around to do things like change thread titles and sometimes take actions when other people aren't around, but when it gets down to it, it is on us to clean up our own messes. Oh, and speaking of taking action when other people aren't around, free GoldenEye.
Oh. And while we're at it, is it possible to change the thread title to something that works and is more in the spirit of the Red Room? Can it be "TKO is a Shiftless Negger"?
Do you expect me to go against the explicit orders of the owner of the board? While I am in command at the moment, the Admiral left instructions. What would you folks have me do? And that is a serious question.
Yes. It was already mentioned that threats were made over PM to more than one person and in rep comments. I, in fact received one of these PMs where I was told to "back off"...although I wasn't even participating in anything and if I didn't "there would be shitstorms like you've never seen" and "people's feelings would be hurt" if I didn't or didn't somehow stop other people from upsetting her. I have no idea what her threats to Elwood were exactly. They were credible enough, and given her self-proclaimed vindictiveness streak very believable for anyone who spent time in chat with her, that he left orders for her and GE to be banned if one or both of them began posting personal information and he would deal with them personally when he got back if it happened.
