It might be. Here is Hillary posing with convicted cocaine smuggler Jorge Cabrera:

This is the second of the two photographs (the other was of Al Gore with Jorge) that the Justice Department was confiscating after it was learned that Jorge, who had donated $20,000 to the Clintons, was a major cocaine smuggler.

I dunno what business he had with them, but overall they seem like intelligent and slick people. I realize that my impression of them means nothing and that they might be innocent of all the nastiness surrounding them, but until it's proven that they are squeaky-clean I will touch them only with an 11-foot pole.

I have tried to follow Palin since McCain picked her as VP. Heck, it was the first major political nomination thing I actually followed (Guess who inspired me to do so). Sarah Palin is a teddy bear for the (whatever)-right that sees her as a viable candidate. She is such a nobody on so many levels. I will even say that the only reason she is still talked about is because she is a woman. Imagine a male republican delivering the lines she did.

More like a pretty doll than a teddy bear. You know the kind they had back in the day where you pull the cord in the back and it cycles through it's list of [-]baby sounds and phrases[/-] catchy right wing talking points?

I really wish it were someone else delivering the points I happen to support. The powers-that-be can prop this nobody up as long as they please. I'll just leave the 'big tent' and look for a party which can properly carry the torch. Like most everyone else who has left the ginormous failure of a party the Republican party has turned out to be.

It's gotta be all about job creation.

Well, I think you know as well as I do that millions of people would jump at the chance of getting their picture taken with Hillary. And Hillary, kind person that she is, usually obliges. I don't see how a single picture then means anything. I mean, it's not like he was her pastor, or officiated at her wedding, or christened her children, or was an influential, father-like figure to her, etc.

I don't think the money was donated to the Clintons; it was donated to the Democratic National Committee. As I recall, much of the involvement with Cabrera was in fact with the DNC; the money was given to the DNC and it was a DNC fundraiser who initially solicited Cabrera for money. The fundraiser apparently claimed that he/she did not know of his felony convictions; but regardless, I don't see how any of this can in any serious way be considered reflective upon the Clintons.

As for the eventual pardon, well my opinion on pardons in general varies. I don't know if it's a constitutional perk or what have you, but it seems that most Presidents use pardons for what they may not really intended for; and that this is more or less accepted.

He may not have had any business with them.

Well, that is a somewhat different way of assessing someone. Isn't it usually though that people are innocent until proven guilty? Why then would guilt be considered fact in this instance?

I think she is still talked about because so many people have become consumed with trying to write the end of her story. It is truly a phenomenon to behold, a people singly unified, hardened against her. For some out there, Sarah even inspires in them more hate, than Obama inspires in them camaraderie, cooperation.

It is the hatred directed toward her itself that fuels her notoriety. It may also have something to do with the fact that the whole idea of 'going after someone', regardless of who is involved, is somewhat aberrant, counterintuitive from what most people prefer to have in their lives. On the contrary, I would maintain that even in this day and age, most people have at least some general passing interest/goodwill extended toward others -- hoping for everyone's success and fulfilment, were it possible. And that I think is why she is still talked about; for while even the harshest of polite disdains is generally well wishing, this brand of vile, that which is directed at the person and not the professional, is not something you see very often. The display of such an infrequently seen obscenity then, may also be a reason why she is still being talked about.

She's an idiot. A babbling, uninformed idiot. Let those who would try to say otherwise try to explain away this bit of blather as she tried to explain why wouldn't have to put up with ethics questions if she were in the White House, instead of Governor of Alaska...

Naturally, skeptical observers have wondered how Palin would handle being president if some ethics complaints are enough to make her unable to run a state. Palin's answer: if she was president, the Department of Law would protect her.

Palin said there is a difference between the White House and what she has experienced in Alaska. If she were in the White House the "department of law" would protect her from baseless ethical allegations.

"I think on a national level your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out," she said.

Of course, Alaska actually DOES have a Department of Law, and being Governor of Alaska it's not surprising that she might say things in those terms.

And yes, it's true, she's wrong to use that term for the FedGov.

You are correct, sir. However from looking at their webpage I see nothing that indicates such a department has the remit of throwing out inconvenient ethics charges.

Don't believe me? Look for yourself.

And? She's not talking about the AK Department of Law either.

She's talking about the Federal DOJ and called it by the wrong name.

And she obviously has no clue about either department does. Unless I missed the part about them throwing out embarrassing ethics charges...

Can you blame me? j/k. There's a lot of flies buzzing around them, but maybe it's just a general movement to make them look bad to moderately neutral observers such as myself.

If I were to bring up instance [x] of them having shady dealings, you would be able to counter with them having plausible deniability in every case? I'm sure they would, but it's still an awful lot of flies.

Yeah, I can see that first part happening. I got that impression when following Ron Paul's tour. There didn't have to be some nefarious conspiracy against him; every reporter was simply looking to make their bones by single-handedly derailing the run of what appeared to be a forgettable candidate.

Well-said or written. Unfortunately, potential legitimate criticism of her is lumped together with said brand of vile. It makes everything a mess.

But can any citizen file an ethics charge, that must be responded to, against the President? Because that's the low bar for filing that would have to be used here.

Alaska's ethics laws makes it very easy to file an ethics complaint -- any Alaska resident can submit a complaint in writing as long as it is signed under oath and contains details of the alleged ethics violation. Many people in fact have taken advantage of this easy process, and one Andree McLeod has filed 4 complaints against Sarah Palin alone.

And while I can't say for sure, I doubt things are the same at the Federal Level. No US Citizen can just file an ethics complaint against the President. Does the DOJ even have a legal framework or process to address such a thing? It may be that's what she meant when she said DOJ would automatically throw these things out -- because investigating a President for an ethics charge simply on the basis of a letter from any random citizen isn't really something DOJ would do.

A good example of Em's point can be found by looking at the Clintons

Was there ever a formal Justice Department handling of the shit about Mena? Did they spend millions of dollars and hours proving Vice Foster wasn't murdered, et al?

There was a lot of shit that stuck to Bill Clinton, rightfully so. but there was far FAR more that was never taken seriously enough to spend any public funds investigating or defending.

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be. The differences between the two systems are quite glaring; so much so that it's entirely possible even Sarah Palin picked up on those differences. And from there, maybe she realized that because a comparable mechanism to the one allowing frivolous charges be filed against her in Alaska did not exist at the Federal Level, any attempts then at such filings at the Federal level would be pointless. People could try and mail in Alaska-style ethics charges to the DOJ, but without any law requiring that DOJ investigate as it does in Alaska, what exactly would they do with these complaints? They'd probably just have to disregard them.

Of course, it's not even remotely possible that she's just an absolute ignoramus who has no idea of what government does and what being an elected official is really all about. *Goes off looking for Occam's Razor*

It is certainly possible that she is under-informed and has wide gaps in her knowledge base (as, frankly, most people do including politicians) - so the word "ignorant" is certainly arguable. As it is for the vast majority depending on the subject.

    But you said "idiot"

No, there's no realistic possibility she's an idiot. Nor was Bush, nor is anyone else of either party in high elective office.

Idiots only get to that level if they got their via some natural talent like singing or playing a sport or something that made them famous enough to get elected on their name and on those rare occasions, they get found out pretty quick.

No, again, it's almost as certain as the sun rise that she's not an idiot.

She does though at least appear to have some understanding of what government shouldn't be doing -- enabling detractors to manipulate institutional checks and balances to harass someone of political differences. I highly doubt this was the original intent of opening up ethics complaints to the public either; and it may have been mistakenly assumed that people would not abuse the ethics charges policy for personal contempt.

But when the totality of proof offered to substantiate for instance, the following 8 charges:
is nothing more than 1) a CNN article and 2) an op-ed piece from the New York Times, without any additional comment; it's kinda obvious then what the complaint might really be all about.
