Maybe. It largely depends on what kind of stuff you confide, and whether you also confide this with your spouse. I'd also say that if there is an issue, it isn't so much the gender question but the keeping or sharing of secrets.

Disagree! It's apples and oranges. You have a special bond with a mistress (or male version of a mistress if you are female) that's separate (but equal) from the relationship you have with your lifetime spouse. Things you share with a lover are sacred, just between you two. Things you share with a spouse might be repeated to their friends, family members, etc. etc.
But you can "be yourself" with a lover. It's hard to explain. Regardless, guilt never enters into the equation in my case because my brain doesn't really comprehend/feel guilt.
