Is the White Room down?

Go to any porn site, and the only restriction they have is "Click here if you're 18" or "Click here if you're not".

And maybe people who post stuff in the White Room should also post where they got it from, since most porn sites also have that section 2257 statement at the bottom.

Edit: hell, Penthouse.com doesn't even give you the choice of saying you're over 18 or not, and its webhost seems to be in the US.

As far as I'm aware that's actually a legal requirement and they can be prosecuted for not having that check in place. I seem to recall something about needing to have physical records on file proving ages.

I go to a BBS where the main focus is pictures of women and the post nude pics without that disclaimer...

Can you imagine what it would be like if every joe schmuck porn consumer had to have "physical records on file proving ages"? They would have to have a whole room in their house dedicated to hold those "physical records".

Wordforge is not a producer or porn, and neither are imageshack or imagevenue or jpghosting or any of the other image hosting companies. That's why imageshack or imagevenue et al. are not required to have physical records of age. But penthousedotcom does because it's a producer.

I think as long as the host is fine with it, we keep it private, we have some sort of age restriction, and we don't let anyone from TK find out, we should be fine.

I mean, to any browsing FBI agent, he wouldn't even know we had such a room (except for threads like these).

He would then have to go through the process of registering, waiting for Tamar to OK him, and then join the usergroup.

In the mean time, Nick or O2C notice that he's browsing with an FBI IP and they delete as much porn as they can.

I admit I don't know the details of the laws, but I'm thinking that Elwood wouldn't exactly be a big fan of disobeying the law.

Plus the stuff you quoted is all hypothetical. The law is clear and it applies only to producers not consumers.

Wordforge is neither a producer nor a reseller. It's more like imagevenue or imageshack.

I think if WF adopts a policy of requiring that every porn post is accompanied by a link to the USC2257 statement, then that should be sufficient.

Also, please read through imagevenue's TOS (link above). They address this problem very well, imo.

In the end, it comes down to whether Elwood is comfortable with the level of legal protection he has, and that's going to be based on what real lawyers knowledgable in such matters tell him, not what the users of this board have heard or read.

I'm picking up the vibe that even if it comes back, the fun will be sucked out of it by hoops to jump through, and legalese mumbo jumbo.
